    Donít hurt your daughter
    She needs your pride
    Donít hurt your sister
    She breaks inside
    She feels surrounded by enemies
    Please donít hurt the girl
    That girl is me

    She left you long ago
    Packed up and ran
Ran away from all the pain
    She didnít understand
It didnít take her very long
When she had to come back
To see all the reasons why
    She took that track

    She sits there smiling
    Sheís afraid inside
    Of the next hurt inflicted
    That sheíll have to hide
    She has to be here
    Because of her baby son
    She has no husband
    As for her son's parents
    Sheís the only one

    Donít hurt your daughter
    She needs your pride
    Donít hurt your sister
    She breaks inside
    She feels surrounded by enemies
    Please donít hurt the girl
    That girl is me

    You sit and gossip that
    She wonít come around
    But judgment and criticism
    Is all sheís found
    She fights the invisible hands
    Forcing her to the floor
She fights the instincts of survival
    To run out the door

    You donít see her clearly
    Looking through your clouds
    Looking at the wrong things
    Like her bank account
Looking for what she should change
    Not what sheís done
Not at the strong, healthy man
    Her son has become

    Donít hurt your daughter
    She needs your pride
    Donít hurt your sister
    She breaks inside
    She feels surrounded by enemies
    Please donít hurt the girl
    That girl is me

    She notices wistfully
The pride in her parents' eyes
    As they behold the families
    In which they have pride
    The look that vanishes
    As they turn her way
    The pride that disappears
    And then her heart frays

    Broken shells get left behind
    Scattered all over the sand
    Perfect shells get taken home
    Precious treasures in the hand

Merry Meet Lisa. This is beautiful and sad. I love the "chorus". This seems to be more of a song than a poem. But hey, It was awesome. It brought tears to my eyes also. I take it that this is personal experience. I am sorry if it is. Blessed Be Andrea

Whew. Tears filled my eyes reading this. Blinked them rapidly away for there are days when I'm too damned stubborn to cry.

The words of this poem pierced my heart.

    "Don't hurt your daughter"

    "Broken shells get left behind"

    "Perfect shells taken home.."

    *Tears up again*

ITS absoulte BS. That's what I think but its unfortunately true. You seemed to capture all my emotions and just push it insie deep making me face them through a reading. You really..this repeatitive thing really works for your pieces. And, you always pick the most emotional and the one that will strike your reader the hardest. Keeps them pulled in.

Be kind, take a few minutes to review the hard work of others <3
It means a lot to them, as it does to you.
