    -------------------------------------------

    Rhenium thermocouples, silvery white;
    electrical current flowing, the machine
    comes to life. Chaos overwhelms the nuclear
    sensors, setting off a piercing alarm

    warning the special ones of the oncoming
    swarm; death-defying microorganisms gag
    on the fumes from the funeral pyre that
    celebrates the life of the blessed machine’s

    creator. Kawasaki hellhounds pound the pulpit;
    clock ticking, the final countdown has begun.
    Imminent lawyers kill time arguing before a
    judge built with parts from a fifty-eight Chevy.

    Liposuction queens stroll through the plaza,
    bickering about the latest reports from the
    neighboring zones. Ambitious politicians bow
    down and pray for deliverance from the machine.
