MY LIFE POEM BY EDWIN JABBARI
A cold February morning, and the arrival of a boy,
Gunshots and needles around him,
Erased by the happiness and joy.
Playschool and nursery, days of eating snow,
Nap time and juice breaks,
Oh where did they all go?
Primary school in Hackney,
Horrible meals with friends,
No-one to dance with at the school disco,
I wished those days would never end.
Big school in Chingford, I thought I was a man,
A chubby lad with a mighty afro,
Without a clue or a plan.
Happy days went on and on,
Youth was such a joy,
By time I finished college, I no longer was that boy.
And now you see me at that place called uni,
Changes come and go like water,
But don’t forget that little young lad,
He still always shines through me.
