Description:

Everything is still now

I can feel the pressure of narration
Like something solid under my feet
I can’t help but notice the weapons these men carry

More ammunition and sheer force this is needed,
At least I think,
To scare away the occasional drunk

I am looking at these men through shattered glass
Through a life with out violence
And the stains on my home

There is glass on the rug of course
Glass and blankets and beer cans
Stuffed under the bed

There are pages torn from books
And photographs among the glass
No one face seems like any other

Like a mirror lying broken on the ground
The destruction is complete
No surface is left untouched

Everything is still now
Besides the chatter of police officers
And the traffic in the streets

It’s pretty obvious what happened here
Whatever you want to call it
But I find myself asking that very question

An officer’s arm around my shoulder
Is there anyone that might want to hurt you?
Anywhere you can stay?

But everything is still as he leads me to the worst part
The worst that I can imagine
In front of me for one last time

She is beautiful and nothing moves
