Finding The Way -------------------------------------------
My mind seems to wander to the past
I try to find the reasons for the way I feel about myself today
By doing this I have found you cannot blame the past
You have the means to turn yourself around and be the person you want to be
Always think positive of yourself for to Love anything or anybody you must Love yourself first
Reach for your dreams and one day they will come true
You must never give up your dreams
This write defintely would be much more effective as prose and should be formatted as a brief paragraph. Also, your mom might consider adding a bit more to this to flesh out some related thoughts she might want to share.
dreams are
the angelic gifts
that rooted in us, lift
flatlands to solemn peaks
I would have to agree, surrendering a dream is similar to cutting away something of the self.
Please let your mom know that this piece really hits home to me. You've read my work and I know you know about my past. She is so right about how the past can make you feel about yourself.
I had an epiphany a couple years ago when I realized that it was up to me to stop buying into my family's abuse. Actually, it was my son that drew a line in the sand...he said, "Mom, I will not let them treat you like this anymore." So that was that. No more hanging out with them for us! They were good to him for many years when it was just me, just him since 3 months old, a frightened mom needing a family for my son since his father crashed and burned. I didn't care what my family did to me as long as my son got what he needed during his childhood.
But children grow up and he figured things out. So when they weren't good for him anymore, we went our separate ways and haven't been part of the family since. We are so much happier now, and I am so much healthier.
"You have the means to turn yourself around and be the person you want to be
Always think positive of yourself for to Love anything or anybody you must Love yourself first"
Very true and wise words. Thank you (and your mom) for sharing them.
One problem I have right now is with hope. I've taken quite a beating from Life lately and I'm just hanging on. So these words were especially helpful and inspiring to me:
"Reach for your dreams and one day they will come true
You must never give up your dreams"
I have been ready to give up on my dreams, but thanks to this piece, I think I'll hang on to them a little bit longer!!
"Always think positive of yourself for to Love anything or anybody you must Love yourself first"
Interesting this, I was reading a book today contrasting the world views of Sigmund Freud and C.S.Lewis, and this particular chapter was their views on love and relationships, and particularly Agape love
That line mirrors exactly what Lewis thought on the subject, while Freud was always thought the whole thing was ridiculous. Anyway, I don't believe in coincidences, so I guess I'll be thinking the whole thing over.
Thanks to your mother for writing this, she must be alright as far as mothers goes :D
Just a thought... why doesn't your mom create her own page? She certainly has enough to share with the rest of Elite's writers!
I love the thoughts and totally agree... if there is not self-love then it becomes very difficult to function in this dysfunctional world of ours. I try to instill this in my children and also a sense of responsibility for the 'self'. It's so easy to say 'he or she makes me so mad' but the point is you shouldn't allow someone to choose on your behalf. You are still ultimately left with the choice to react positively. This rings very true in the line "Always think positive of yourself for to Love anything or anybody you must Love yourself first"... which is my favorite part of the post.
Very haunting and self-reflected writing. Well written.
Thank you for your wonderful words of wisdom spoken with love and hope. It's very true that we cannot love others without loving and accepting ourselves, imperfect as we may be! :-) Sharon
The sentiments of your Mother's prose here is something we all can use to assist us in the day to day trevails of making it through life in these dicey times. Ron, you referred to this as a poem but I feel that it is much more akin to a prose style sermon, but then again that may just be my slant on it.
Give my best to your Mother and may your upcoming days be blessed ones.
This is so true and very inspiring... there is no use pondering over the dark aspects of the past ... moments teach us a few things and go their way... we need not clutch the scars... let them fade in their natural way. The power of positive thinking is really immense.
Good words to ponder on.
I for one, often find myself regretting the past and letting it hinder the happiness of today. Thanks for the reminder that it's in 'this moment' that we live, not in the past or the future.
this is almost exactally how i based the Insights that are on my posts.....the love u have for others and that they have of u is a great thing...but if u find that love within ur self then it is even greater.....i bleieve if we were not ment to find our personal love in ourselves then God wouldnt have truly existed in the sence he does now...for alot of humanity...myself included...believe that it is, was, and forever will be God that not only leads us to this inner love...but is the love itself

Yet another enjoyable poem by your mother. I love the way she writes and thinks, and despite what I've been feeling lately, this positive outlook has gotten smile out of me. As I was reading this I felt motivated, and happy.
this is nice and it,s so true, to many people blame the past for what has become of them, your mother is right, i like her positive energy, like she says you should never give up on your dreams, even if the don,t come true they keep us alive, and maybe we can hand our dreams down onto our children, who knows. nice poem
