Greetings From the Rim

I saw an angel burning bright,
As pale as the moonlight;
She sang a song of hope, of fear
That drew me near.
Her voice, it carried with the wind,
Drove me mad, turned my mind to sin;
Enchanting gaze, brought me to my knees,
With one black kiss, my soul she seized.
Follow on the path forever, son,
The voices call, they beg you to come,
Follow the words wherever they lead,
Just give into the hand that feeds.
The temptress disappeared into the water,
With a stir, I quickly forgot her;
Madness took, as I fell to the river,
As I drowned, sanity it withered.
Then before me, stood a mirror,
Inside it, the thing I fear;
The voices whispered, and dance around,
No other souls here, not one other sound.
This is your time, whether you Devil or Christ,
Evils unspeakable, illusions of your own device;
Slap the vein, and let the poison seep through you,
Your life now dependant on what you choose.
The voices, faceless, surrounded like a council,
"You there, shameless; why'd you wish us killed?"
Then pictures housing memories, flew 'bout my head,
And in that instant, it hit me, all the dread.
That moment lasted a lifetime, then ended like a game,
Out of the corner of my eye, the angel came;
She took my hand and whsipered; "Greetings from the Rim"
And in her eyes I saw escape, I saw the end.
