A man of wisdom once said, “The truth is lived, not taught.” His name was Hermann Hesse, the mastermind behind The Journey to the East. In that ingenious novel, an assemblage of men called the League is on a search for the ultimate Truth. But seeking is one thing while persisting is another especially when faith is such a fragile subject, theme, even entity that can come as well as go; stays with the strongest and leaves the weakest.
Faith is like a woman.
A woman loves with her ears. If a man who would stimulate the ears of his woman by talking to her in a loving manner constantly suddenly stops doing so, the woman loves him less until finally ceases feeling any kind of tender affection for him. Her love disappears. Just how faith disappears when one succumbs into weakness.
Faith is like a man.
A man loves with his eyes. If a woman who would arouse the eyes of her man by always disclosing something new in her appearance stops out of the blue, the man’s zealous adoration for her becomes faint and then grows to be nothing. His love disappears. Just how faith disappears when one succumbs into weakness.
On the behalf of myself, dear listeners, and hopefully through the words of Herr Hesse, it is a great honor to speak of a subject that enthuses me greatly. And surely, it is an issue that concerns many people as well.
Faith is such a vast entity that can metamorphose into its many various synonyms and can be reported in many different contexts.
Faith can be belief in God.
It can be trust between two people in love.
Confidence in self.
Reliance in someone’s support.
Assurance in something’s existence.
There are so many forms of faith and only one problem - a problem of serious gravity however. It is simply that we do not have enough faith nowadays.
We are like H.H. in The Journey to the East.
We journey with great belief as a companion by our side and yet when we encounter even the smallest obstacle possible, our faith suddenly disappears into thin air.
We are like Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes.
When we are in love, our expectations are at their highest. For what gives more faith than the feeling of love? Oh, but when that feeling stings us ruthlessly in the core, we cannot help ourselves; we lose faith in things we once believed so firmly! We turn into pessimists, skeptics, and cynics separately or all together. We doubt in us, in others, in things, in life.
We are like Don Juan.
We believe in facts such as two plus two equals four. On the other hand, we do not believe in religion, in destiny, in miracles, in true love, and other essences that feed not only the mind, but also the body, the soul, and the heart. Or rather, we believe but only to some extent. We need to see it to accept it as true.
But life is too short for incredulity. All this disbelief does is instigate countless sufferings.
We are poor and hungry because we did not believe enough in the fact that we could have found a decent vocation.
We are wretched because we did not believe enough that we could have found true happiness.
We are at war because we did not believe enough in the significance of a friendship we once shared with a certain nation.
We are faithless because we do not believe enough in faith.
Whatever is causing us to be this way must vanish henceforth, for it does nothing but damage.
Without a doubt, it is an arduous undertaking, but we can do it!
Together we can.
Together we can turn wrong into right.
Together we can turn black into white.
Together we can turn misfortunes into miraculous situations.
Together we can turn grieves into elations.
Together we can!
With faith.
