we had to write an extended metaphor for english.
it had to be inspired by a quote from a book that we read over spring break
i chose a yellow raft in blue water
and my quote is "it wasn't so much that i was afraid to leave, as that i was fearful to be gone"

Enveloped in soil,
awaiting growth.
I’ll one day rise,
by nature’s oath.

How proud to bloom!
To mature from seed!
Bursting out of the ground
of which all passions breed.

I long for resurrection.
Live with new petals and leaves.
Finally to confront
the sun and the breeze.

Of all that I’ve heard,
what would I miss?
But is it safer in here,
am I believing a myth?

Could I never return
to my warmth in the earth?
It’s all that I’ve known,
my home, my worth!

I’d love to break through
But I can wait to sprout.
For now I will stay
rooted in doubt.
