    Three roses left a monument
    within a vase to compliment
the beauty that now lies within,
the mother you have always been.

    I carry in my memory
    the sweetest part of history,
your eyes, your hugs and your brown hair,
the times you showed how much you care.

I know you're watching from above
for roses you did always love,
one left for each that you did birth
before you parted from this earth.

Pray know your magic stays with me
for I have also brought forth three,
one image of you given birth,
a monument that walks the earth

my mom is 90...very lucky to still have her around...and i appreciate every day she is...

    this is a beautiful poem!

When my mother died, I was 52. We had such an adult relationship for so long that it had become more like a cherished but sometimes difficult friendship! But with kids of one's own, one realizes that Mum has memories of her child going back to before he can remember ... my children shall have to be parents before they can understand my feelings for them. Your poem made me remember my childhood Mother, a time when there was just her and me (with Dad at the war). That's a fine power for a poem to have; a simple and plain-speaking rhyme is what we always come back to, for the important motifs!

It is very original and beautifully poignant that you chose 3 roses for the 3 children your mom had. You have a wonderful talent for rhyme, something I just can't do. The whole piece is full of sweetness and love, but the 1st and last verses are my favorite. I know this was written in April 2007, but I would still like to tell you I'm sorry for your loss. Feelings of loss are timeless, and I believe this to be your biggest comfort:

"I know you're watching from above
for roses you did always love,
one left for each that you did birth
before you parted from this earth."

I really wish I could write a poem that is as strong as this one. So happy with yourself, not suffering, because I know my mother wouldn't want me to suffer. This poem gave me a bit hope tonight as well.

The ending was very sweet. I hope above is where every loved one watches us. I'm adding to my favorites. Keep in touch friend.

All my life i have never had that kind of relationship with my mother who put me through 7 years of abuse. Reading your poem makes me really wish that things would have turned out different in the long run. I wish i had that mother to even mourn for. Very nice write.

I love the tribute to your mother. Its sweet. Well written. I wouldnt change a thing about it. And it shows how much you care. I would give anything to have that relationship with my mother...and it makes me appreciate that she is still alive and I can try to acheive that relationship. Thanks for the insight.

A beautiful tribute to ones mother! How sweet are the memories one has of a caring, loving mother. You have expressed those endearing memories so well. Thoughts of a lifetime has been written in this poem of memories never to be suppressed but with tender emotions Remembered Forever.

    Nicely written!
    Best Regards,

Sheesh! That's so sad! But an excellent write. Thanks for the tears :)

It really is an excellent poem, so well-written and the wording is perfect. It's always so hard to lose someone, especially a mother, and it's even harder to put that pain into words. But you've done it here, in a beautiful, yet not overpowering or melodramatic, way. Simply lovely.

    Cheers and God bless,

    ~Mandi~

Yeah, I'm commenting on it again:).

Reading this poem invokes a jumble of emotions. Pleasure at being gently prompted to take a moment to really appreciate the bond and love between me and my mum, and sadness that the writer has lost the gift of his own mother's physical presence.

Thank you for reposting it. I'm going to save it for when you decide to take it away again.
