“Rowan! Rowan!” someone kept calling her name. The voice was Dani’s and he was summoning her to him; He needed her. She put on a robe she found by a chair in a corner of the room and let Dani’s voice inside her head guide her to him. The voice led her to the end of the hall and into a room. There she found Dani, tossing and turning, his sleep uneasy. He mumbled her name and clutched at the air. She walked to his side and raised his upper body in her arms – he had a fever and he was sweating profusely. “Damnit” she cursed out loud, remembering he had drunk too much of her blood and he was having a reaction. There were so many chemicals and drugs in her system- Vicodin, Zanax, Prozac, many countless other sedatives, including morphine and, for some strange reason, horse tranquilizers. All that poison didn’t affect Rowan because she had built up a partial immunity to it, but to Dani, it was most likely killing him. There was also the fact that she wasn’t exactly human and her blood carried her power and most likely that power was making things worse. She could not let that happen – losing him would ruin all her plans; besides he was a nice guy, arrogance and all… ‘Where the hell was that coming from, nice guy? Nice guy, my arse…what the hell am I doing? The guy’s dying! Fuck!’ Fortunately, she could cure him. It took a spell and taking some blood from Dani to stop the reaction from getting more serious, she hoped it wouldn’t. She recited the spell in Dani’s ear
“Oh Mighty Lord, help me heal this mortal with your great power from the damage I have caused him. He took my blood, and now I shall take his to restore him to health.”
She peeled off his shirt and drew a line with her index under his left nipple. The blood began to flow and Rowan lowered her mouth to the thin incision she had just made. She lapped the blood up feeling some of her power return to her and with it that same sensation she felt when Dani was taking her blood – the feeling resembled that of sex; it was riveting and consuming. Rowan could hear Dani panting and writhing in pain and pleasure, she would have done the same wasn’t she holding his body and tasting his blood. It could have been the drugs, the alcohol in his blood, the lust or her immense power, but his blood tasted particularly sweet, even sweeter than Leland’s. She just wanted to keep drinking, but she would drain him if she continued. She stopped, but the pleasure didn’t go away – it seized her and Dani, it rode them and pushed them under. Dani opened his eyes, his pupils were mere dots lost in a sea of the purest blue, and he was still feverish. He clung to her and she to him. The heat emanating from Dani’s body seared Rowan’s skin. She summoned all her natural and supernatural strength and threw Dani over her small shoulder and half-dragged him to the bathtub in the adjoining bathroom in Dani’s room. She shifted his body against the edge of the tub while she turned the cold water knob all the way and stripped Dani of his remaining garments. Dani’s body shook with chills while Rowan tugged at his briefs – the fever was supposed to have receded by now. When she managed to get rid of his garments, she shed her robe and got in the tub with him; that way it’d be easier for her to handle his shivering form. Rowan sat in the water-filled tub with her arm firmly around Dani’s waist. His head lay on her chest, her chin resting on the top of his head. Her other arm was pouring water on Dani – she poured it on his chest; washing the wound, over his arms, on his face. She put her hand to his forehead to check if his fever was diminishing, and it was. She soaked in the tub with him, listening to his breathing and heartbeat go back to normal. His body has stopped shaking and now rested somewhat limp against hers. His body was broad and strong, she liked the way his skin felt against hers- his body emanated such warmth, the kind of warmth that only a mortal body could emit.
Once the fever disappeared, Rowan and a now semi-conscious Dani stepped out of the bathtub and got wrapped up in thick white towels, and Rowan guided Dani to his bed. She laid him on the bed and closed his wound. She silently debated on whether or not to leave him alone; she decided not to. She laid down next to him and Dani mumbled:
Rowan pulled him closer to her and pulled the covers over him. In return, Dani wrapped his arms around Rowan. Finally, Rowan fell asleep exhausted – bathing an unconscious grown man and selling your soul to the devil wasn’t child’s play.
Dawn chased the night away and bought upon a brand new day. Merrick found Rowan and Dani together in his bed; it didn’t amuse him, but he knew nothing had happened between them. He sensed that Dani had been sick the night before and Rowan had come to aid him. Merrick approached Rowan’s sleeping form and nudged her to awaken – he was hungry and wanted Rowan to feed him. He licked her hand and she opened her unnaturally beautiful green eyes.
Merrick had awakened her, Dani was still asleep – his legs intertwined with hers and his head rested on her chest. It seemed quite an irony to her to wake up like this and not be aroused; funny that nothing had happened, and yet she had woken up like that. Dani looked as harmless as a newborn cub…he didn’t look as intimidating as he usually did. It was very cute and she wanted to keep a mental image of that, she regarded his sleeping form for some more. Merrick licked her again and that was enough to snap her out of her reverie. She disentangled herself from Dani slowly, trying not to disturb his sleep. She got out of bed without bothering to cover her nakedness – she wasn’t ashamed of her body, besides, no one was going to notice seeing as everyone in the house was asleep – and walked out of the room with Merrick, not noticing that Dani was wide awake and what was wondering if something had happened in between them last night.
Dani didn’t remember anything after he went to bed. Why was a naked Rowan climbing out of his bed? Why was he naked? What had happened?
He’d been asking himself that question way too much for the past forty-eight hours and he was sick of it already – the strangest, craziest things were happening, and when he demanded an explanation, more things happened and with them more questions.
His body didn’t seem to care about his dilemma – he was hard under the covers. The sight of Rowan’s body had aroused him to the point of making him grip the side of the bed with all the strength he could muster. It pissed him off because he wanted to forget about this mess, but the image of Rowan’s body made it impossible. Her bobbing perfect breasts, her wide, delicate hips, her round ass…even though she was undernourished because of that goddamned place, her body still held its curves and its beauty. Her body was beyond perfect and had a sort of liquid grace; her movements were so perfect, so calculated, delicate, and even rhythmic. He wanted her, he wanted to possess her in the whole sense of the word; technically, she was already his, but he wanted to have her again and again…his head was filled of images of Rowan underneath him, writhing and screaming his name, her flesh against his, his mouth on her, he imagined himself in her…the thought were so erotic and realistic, he took it upon himself to take care of his throbbing arousal. He didn’t remember feeling so much pleasure while wanking and thinking of a woman…not even porn was this good.
Images of Rowan kept flashing through his mind quickly, and his hand was catching up with them. He had turned his face to the pillow to muffle his moans and screams. Luckily, the door was closed and his room was at the end of the hallway.
The same orgasmic force he felt last night while he took Rowan’s blood rode him, his climax left him lightheaded and disoriented. He felt satisfied, but the feeling didn’t last long – it dawned on him that as soon as Rowan saw him, she’d know what he’d been doing; which was embarrassing…very embarrassing; she might even find it offending, not to mention he was not over Toni and in his mind, what he had just done was a slap in the face to the memory of Toni. He had to leave now. Why did everything in his life have to get so damn confusing?
He looked around the room for his clothes, put them on in record time, but forgot his keys and wallet on the night stand. He made his way out of the room silently, but to his misfortune, he met a clothed Rowan in mid-hallway. She was blocking the passage and the wolf was beside her. He wasn’t very trusting of the wolf, but she seemed to be. Merrick looked at Dani as Dani looked at him; there was a sort of unspoken rivalry between the man and beast for Rowan’s attention. Rowan stepped forward and greeted Dani
“Good Morning, Dani. How are you feeling? You had a very high fever last night and I had to bathe you to make it go down.” She put her hand to his forehead, checking his temperature; he was fine.
So that was probably why he and Rowan had been naked this morning, he thought. He was relieved, but something inside him had been hoping to find out something had happened between the both of them. Dani was hoping with all his might it wouldn’t occur to Rowan to read his thoughts; and speaking of thoughts…he could ask her to teach him right now. ‘She did promise me’ he rationalized as if he was trying to convince himself of something.
“Something wrong, Dani?” Rowan’s feather-light hands rested on his biceps, she was concerned about him.
“Umm…nothing. I’m fine, Rowan. Thank you for asking. Listen, I don’t mean to bother you, but I’d like to learn how to block my thoughts”
“Sure, Dani. It doesn’t bother me at all, but I’m sure you’d like to eat something first, right?” She heard his stomach lurch, and they both laughed
“I guess I do, then” Dani chuckled. They both walked to the kitchen, Merrick trailing behind them, sniffing Dani, making sure he wouldn’t harm Rowan or Suzanne. He wouldn’t.
Rowan made porridge, toast, coffee and eggs. She was pouring some porridge into Merrick’s bowl when Suzanne walked into the kitchen. She went over to the table where Dani was sitting, wolfing down his porridge. He stopped when he saw her and she embraced him and kissed the top of his head. He kissed her cheek and greeted her good morning.
Suzanne walked over to Rowan and kissed her forehead and held her daughter in her arms for what seemed a long time. She let her go and asked
“What’s for breakfast? I’m hungry as a wolf. J’ai un faim de loup” she smiled at Merrick who went over to her and licked her hand and her face.
Suzanne sat next to Dani and nibbled on some toast while Rowan served her some porridge. They all chatted about the weather and petty things for the remainder of breakfast, no one wanting to sour the mood by mentioning anything that had happened the night before.
‘This porridge is great, it’s better than the stuff Toni used to make. Poor soul never got it right’ Dani reminisced while polishing off his second helping of porridge. He was uncharacteristically hungry. Then he remembered he hadn’t eaten anything since the afternoon the day before when he took Luna out for ice cream
“Dani, before you leave today, come by my room. I bought some new books and I think you might like to see them, not to mention that I got you a couple the books you have been looking for” Suzanne said to Dani as she got up and cleared the table.
“And Rowan, when you’re done, come to my room please” Suzanne whispered in her daughter’s ear and caressed her cheek.
“Yes, mum” was all Rowan said. She seemed to know where it was all going and it wasn’t particularly to her liking.
Dani seemed to be in his own world, eating porridge and toast and thinking about something. Rowan could easily find out what he was thinking, but he had asked her to not read his thoughts, and since she was the servant, she would have to respect his wish. Tough luck.
Dani finished his breakfast and got up to put his plate in the sink, but Rowan took it from him.
“No, Dani. You are a guest and you shouldn’t have to do that, besides, my mother expects you” Rowan told Dani while putting a hand to his forehead; his temperature was stable and he seemed to have gained some strength.
“I would go to Suzanne’s room if I knew where it was, do you mind showing me?” he asked Rowan. There was something about Rowan’s attitude that morning that Dani did not like, she was acting motherly and he just hated when people treated him like a defenseless baby, but he let it go. Another thing that bothered him: he never things go.
“Sure thing, just follow me” so, Dani followed Rowan throughout the house until she stopped at her mother’s door. She smiled at him and walked away.
Dani heard Suzanne tell him to come in, so he did.
