This was written to be performed at Take Back the Night at California State University San Bernardino on 5/23/07. It is a program designed to empower women against rape and violence.

In many situations, nice is not enough. Knowing how and when to wield power, without apology, is a life skill we all need. Part of my training in shamanism and mysticism involves embracing my shadow-self, dark side, the warrior. From that I learned that sometimes the most loving thing I can say to another human being is “fuck off”, because it is expressing love and respect for myself.

Date Rape is never acceptable. Women need to understand that they are allowed to stop it by any means necessary, perpetrators need to know that they will.

    There are no metaphors here.
This is my reality so I’ll tell it
as straight and clear as I can and
you need to listen, very carefully.
I enjoy the company, being a friend,

but when I say no, I mean NO!
    If you can’t understand
with your ears maybe your shin,
groin, diaphragm or larynx will listen
to kicks, punches and piercing pain.

There are no limits to the ends
I will use to secure my sacredness.
I am High Priestess of my body
I say who comes in or is left out
of places reserved for the devout.

No I don’t really want it unless
I said yes and I don’t care what
you think except if it is respect.
I own my body, power and sex.
I am not letting leases or releasing
my rights to decide, so accept

    what comes next…
Getting your kicks may be more
than you planned. The ecstasy might
take you to new places on a scale of
    holding cells and intensive care.

Be kind, respectful and fair or beware.

Excellent! I think part of girls phys ed should include classes in self-defense, particularly defense against rape and unwanted advances! Very good verse and philosophy this!

      yes. this is perfect.

i think... i think... i think... im not sure what i think.

this is a very strong piece.
you are right: women are the owners of their bodies. it is odd how it could be thought otherwise in the society we live in where women apparently have equal rights to men in work and vote...

now me... i was dragged down an alley in Rome and beaten and raped a year ago. the whole thing lasted hours and it was horrific.
i had been going for the christian 'no sex before marriage' ideal up til then which i think made the whole thing even more violating in some ways though thankfully i had spent a lot of time working with friends who were trying to reconcile sexual abuse and god so when it happened i had some kind of base to work my thoughts from.

in that situation NO really didnt do anything. and when i did manage to get up and get away [after many unsuccessful attempts] i have no idea what to do or where i was... it was just horrid.

but you are right in this piece... when it comes to dating and such girls need to KNOW that they have the right to say FVCK OFF and be taken seriously.

this piece does say a lot about your character. also in the description too. and sometimes nice isnt enough... sometimes it isnt anything...

i admire you for writing and posting this.
it really is an empowering piece.

Rejection is easier to handle than most people think. A good swift kick to the groin is always a healthy reminder too.

There ya go, Lady. She wold be proud of this, you know it. I think this is amazing, and says so much. As always, you work is great, and this time it went right to the point, and made the person understand exactly what you were meaning. I think this is a great one, and speaks volumes about something that is important.
"I am High Priestess of my body

Those are my favorite lines, I think this says a lot with your body being your sacred temple, and only people who come to praise and worship with respect are let in. (With the risk of sounding arrogant. Ha.)
Amazing, of course. I loved it.
    Love and Light,

You never cease to amaze me
As you know I have been a fan of your writings for a very long time
This is one strong and very important write for others to see
The meassage is perfect and blunt as it should be
Perpatraitors need to realize if they try to strike people will not just sit back and allow them to destroy their lives
We can and will fight back against their Negativity
I for one can honestly say Chrystine because I have done it before that I would choose to maybe give up my life in order to help another move forward in life
    Keep The California style alive
    God Bless
    Your Friend

If You ever come out with a chapbook Please let me know as I would Love to buy one

This had a religious feel with the priestess and temple references. It seems that something sacred is defiled in the instance of rape. It is a loss like a death.

    A very powerful write.

The first thing that came to mind when I read this was Date Rape, by Sublime.

Thankfully, it veered off on a better-written (and healthier) track. It's nice to see a poem that isn't depressed or about love.

I think this is a wonderful poem
it took me a few reads
but I like how it embraces
the female power to be in control
not in a total feminist way
but it says a lot about your character,
and I think the poem had great form
    and technique in it.
I will have to read some more of yours.
