    -------------------------------------------

    sex is just two bodies,
    grinding,
    it is not pretty.
and neither is nine months later,
when the thing pops out and looks like your stomach turned inside out.

little girls with freckles are not pretty
and they just get their Easter dresses muddy.
acoustic guitars are not pretty, and there's always someone making money off of it.

the mona lisa? not pretty. art is fucked.

engagement rings and even worse promise rings just reek of sentimentality.

    and are not pretty.

jane fonda in Barbarella was as close as we've ever been duped but looking back even she doesn't think it was pretty.

but pretty is juvenile, pretty is for 7th grade vocabulary and beginner french. we've moved past pretty to something deeper, at least we write, paint, sing and talk like we have.

but even cynics have moments of weakness.

like when sylvia's in the fountain
    and tells marcello, "come here".

    that,

    that was pretty.

Man, I love the attitude of your work, it's awesome. I also like that I don't (and not particularly this piece) just get it the first time I read it, and that they make me think. (I've read them all and am constructing some criticism for them now) I think that you're getting at the fact that pretty things are intangible. I like it. I do think that it's a bit incomplete. You should read this one a few times and finish your thoughts on it. I really do like it.

Ha ha. This made me laugh. I have a print just above the garbage. No one gets it. Ah well.

    sex is just two bodies,
    grinding,
    it is not pretty.

Just had sex. It wasn't pretty. After 5 years I guess it's normal. I need a blonde in a pink t-shirt.
Anyway your poem is ok I guess. Nice effort.

      quite interesting...and amusing too.
What i got from this is that people look for beauty in things that are not beautiful..depends on the person though.
But what you're talking about are things that are beautiful in meaning, not so much in appearance.
    anyway, enjoyed it. good write
    peace and love
