She walked into the bar trailing a perfume
Of Obsession and desperation
Looking for her fix, for her next big high
She sat at the bar and looked around
Eyes blurred, desperately searching
Wanting it with every part of her body
He approached her, knowing what she needed
Offered cash up front just to have a good time
Hating herself and what she did
But with no thought of declining the offer
She left with him.
Outside against a wall she earned her money
And earned the hate inside herself
She left him with a silent “I hate you”
That came out as a “thanks”.
She walked slowly, a fragment of what she should be
Because some man had pushed her around
She forgot who she was and what she could be
She forgot that she was a woman
She had a woman’s strength somewhere
Deep down, hidden, but there nonetheless
And some day she knew she would find it
Find the strength that every woman was born with
And she would rise and become more
Than she ever dreamed she could be
Once she discovered the invisible steel inside herself
That comes with being a woman.
