I remember the day I heard of his secret,
and how I wished for renewed ignorance.
I suddenly made sense of confusing moments in time,
and wondered how I never knew before.
It was now my turn to be a part of the facade,
to protect those who were blissfully blind.
I would supress all of the emotion but
secretly never trust my father again.
I'd do all that was needed to be the glue,
the force that held us all together.
For one day, I knew everyone would find out
and their hearts would be wounded as well.
My life now had a new purpose.
Hide my father's secret, keep my family happy,
and wait in frightened anticipation of how
they would one day take the news.
That day was yesterday. My decade long strategy worked even better than planned.
We turned to each other, and found the happiness that we knew to be the only real truth in our lives.
