When does a deer
become just a deer
gallivanting
through the snow
for the millionth time
and stop in mid-stride

due to repetition;

knowing that for eons
a deer has been
just a deer

gallivanting

leaving imprints upon the face
of an earthy soil
to die alone,

like so many
that have lived before
never producing anything more
than the strides
of a living creature
limited by muscle production,

limited by the machination
of the code of species
that fails us all.

When does a deer
stand before the hunter,
lie down in the bush and decide
why roam
where so many thought they
had to go,

because I
am no different.

The fabric of time
depicts my movements
before I even decide
that I too
will lie down
to my fated demise.
