her hair flows down on her shoulders,
mouth twisted into a curve facing up,
like a smile. and
dark eyes stare into mine, blank.
feeling restless,
being gazed upon by one not there,
I divert my eyes through the window,
open wide before
me. I am elevated,
my soul floats out of the body into the flood of light,
just beyond the ledge.
a flower lay there,
its closed petals ripe with color,
aroma already seeping through
covers shut tight.
I look back to the picture with the dimpled face,
but I see her eyes no more
