By The Sea
Grey streaks of moonlight drape the drab moonscape,
Stain with soft silver the clear cracking frost,
Shadows now move to shape and to reshape
Figures fantastical like ghosts long lost.
Grey waves are rolling, weaving their power,
So long have they rollicked so long have they rolled,
One shaft of light, an ivory tower
Mixed with the starlight all silver and gold.
Banish this dream, ere death take me wholly
So far from this world of unending pain,
I loved her purely, singlely, solely,
By loved linked through an ethereal chain.
Dreaming of love all sundered and sour
Here by the figures that fly with the foam,
Dream of a tall girl, fluted frail flower,
To weep here below the sky’s massive dome.
