The storm made her departure much harder then it should’ve been, my grandmother’s ancient wind chime clatters in the violent air stream losing its soft tones, the perfect soundtrack for our finale. This story is not about her, it is not for you I say
aloud, because behind blue eyes I have a secret life.
When she gone, completely out of sight down the road, I take off my mask. I take off all my masks and the sickly white skin underneath writhes and quivers. My true face is hungry and finally with her gone, it’s time to eat. The problem is, I don’t want to hurt anyone else.
His baby girl’s name is Kay and her gas tank was running low, she thought of the fake white toothed smile Kris plastered on as he kissed her one last time whispering ‘no regrets, right baby girl?’ she kissed him back and whispered what he wanted to hear. Which was a lie; there were plenty of things she wanted to take back, like wasting the gas to say it all to his face. When in truth his face was what made it all so hard. Those huge brown eyes staring back at her, for an instant tugging on her heart strings, almost making her feel bad.
What kind of man must he really be? If all along he knew, knew what she was doing and said nothing. Waited for her to break it off. She pushed the thought down, pictured it sliding between her legs and then splattering on the road like some dead animal. Often he would ask her “this is just sex right?’ with those huge brown eyes and what was she supposed to say.
“Yes dear I’ve been fucking some one else, a couple of people, the entire time.” She couldn’t do that to those eyes, to his naturally tan face, the constant stubble on his chin.
Down, down, down, like a dead animal smeared along the street.
Before Kris she never would’ve thought something like that. Never would’ve pictured her thought as a beaver or something being ran over, it’s guts spilling on the street under her white wall tires.
Baby girl’s car sputtered for a moment but kept going; hopefully she had enough gas to get to Andrew. Although he didn’t have a job, and no doubt any gas money he could at least drive unlike Kris. She didn’t mind that she’d have to stay at his place a few nights; he had what she really needed.
In her mind she saw Kris’s white toothed smile turn to a grimace as he said ‘What? A fatter cock?”
Down, down, splat. Someone would have to scrape her remorse off the highway.
