    dotsA Christmas Ghostdots
    -------------------------------------------

Her ghost, it cries and so sighs on,
Into the night, into the storm,
As in the farm house I stay warm
    Watch the moonlit far horizon.

The hearth, banked with glowing embers,
Will shoot stray sparks upon the floor,
Lights briefly now my crude décor,
Dreams of old and lost Decembers.

She lived here in the distant past,
A girl of charm and subtle wiles,
Sometimes her ghost it still beguiles
Me from the unknown spaces vast.

With words I scarce can understand,
Her voice is kind and trilling sweet,
There, near the hearth, her special seat,
A witch from some far magic land.

Each Christmas I can hear her sing
Old carols while she’s decked in grays,
    Fine hymns and luminous Aves,
These songs an eager joy will bring.

She sits beside me while she coos
And calls me in a name not mine,
And when I’ve drunk the Christmas wine,
Her gray eyes flame to brilliant blues.

Her hair of gray turns lovely red,
Her face so like a goddess there,
And perfume scents the frigid air,
She cocks here long-necked, pretty head.

I reach to touch her rosy cheek,
She smiles and shuts her lovely eyes,
And then it is I’m filled with sighs,
She's gone, where none of us may seek.

Her ghost, it cries and so sighs on,
Into the night, into the storm,
As in the farm house I stay warm
    Watch the moonlit far horizon.

What a delightful poem, adorned with your mastery of ghostly verse! This is a switch on holiday tales, and it is marvelous! A lovely, ghostly enchantress to share the fireside and spirits with! Absolutely marvelous!

"I can sincerely feel this one, a lonely night in front of a crackling fire, a few hot toddies and memories that wander to other Christmas's past. A presence is felt and as the night progresses is actualy seen. A ghost who, like the person in the poem, is lonely, on the eve of what for some, is the lonliest of the year. Great job, it was a pleasure to read. There is one minor spelling (or typo) error in the eighth verse, second line, should be her rather than here.----Mugsy----
