    dotsSounds and Silencedots

The voice was loud and shrill. I could barely discern the words "Get away, don't touch me!"

After a bang, the noise was followed by silence.

I waited for the quiet to be broken by sirens.

    They never came.

    Stillness can be frightening.

A farmer I knew saved a baby rabbit from thrashing combine blades, but the little thing's spine was broken.

Until then I didn't know a bunny could scream.

It may not have shattered glass, but it crumbled my heart into rough debris and dust.

How many women have suffered at the hands of their savior?

How many apartment walls have shaken with the sounds and silence?

This leaves so much to the imagination, and I think that's part of the strategy here! This excellent write displays genius and much skill.

One of my older posts at my site is titled "The Sound of Silence", kinda on the same subject.

Wow, this had me shaken, Chrys. I don't know what to say about it, whether it's a piece, or something you needed to write to get it off of your chest, this is powerful. I don't know if it's the subject matter, or just the way you chose to write about it, but it's powerful. The analogy with the bunny rabbit is what I think got to me. I don't know, but it's big. The silence is deafening right now, and it's big. Thanks for this.
    Merry Christmas,

Silence is frightening when your thoughts race toward the worst possibilities while hoping no harm came to the one crying out. Very sobering thoughts in this one! Well done, Sharon
