Sheilding his eyes from the bright light, Jaiden stepped off the porch and turned left, heading toward the Crystal Ball. He looked around, spotting one purple flag about a block down. Jaiden was on edge, knowing the church had Desilus on their side. He quickened his pace a little. He left the house full of confidence, but now that he was three blocks away from the house, his confidence began to wane being replaced by nervousness.
Suddenly, a van squealed to a halt in front of him as he crossed the street. The door flew open and out jumped Chris and Jon. Jaiden froze in disbelief. This was exactly what he was afraid would happen. They moved slowly toward him.
"Take it easy, Jaiden. We're not going to hurt you."Chris said.
Jaiden spotted the bandage on his head."That looks like it hurt."
"It hurt enough to need seven stiches, you little bastard."Chris growled.
"Easy Chris. Simon said he's not to be harmed."Jon warned.
He turned his attention back to Jaiden."It was stupid of you to venture outside. We've been coming this side of town for you and lucky us, here you are."
Jaiden looked around for an opening or an easy way out. If he could just get to one of the safehouses Mike had set up.
"Don't even think about running, my son."A voice in Jaiden's head sounded.
"Shut up!"Jaiden yelled aloud.
"So it's true. You hear our lord Desilus in your head. He speaks to you."Chris noted.
"I HATE IT! I HATE HIM AND I HATE ALL OF THIS!!"Jaiden screamed.
The years of frustration and anger he kept bottled up began to rise. The hatred he felt over the years ever since he learned his fate, started to boil. A heated pressure began to surround him. Jon took the opportunity to grab Jaiden from behind and restrain him. Jaiden kicked and struggled for release, while Chris grabbed his legs. They drug him to the van.
Jaiden felt as though something was taking over his body. This strange something was dark and malevolent. It had no fear, only power. It had an unsatisable bloodlust. It enjoyed the death of those around it. It was inside of him, and it was taking over. Jaiden tried to fight it off.
"Stop it!"He yelled.
The thing laughed at him. It dug it's claws into his soul and watched him bleed inside. It fed on his anger and hatred. Then it took control. Fire filled Jaiden's veins, and his body temperature rose. It heated his skin, burning Chris's hands. He dropped Jaiden, and Jon looked at him.
"What the hell are you doing!? We need to get him to Simon."He asked.
"Jon....it's not him anymore."
Jon understood and dropped him. Jaiden fell to his knees. He sat there for a minute, eyes closed, sensing the others presence. He could hear their heartbeat and their breathing. His black hair fell in strands over his eyes as he opened them. He slowly looked up at Chris. Chris saw Jaiden's eyes were no longer the emerald green they used to be. Now they held a blood colored luster. Behind them lay a predatory gleam. Jaiden rose from the asphalt and locked eyes with Chris.
Chris stood frozen. His body wouldn't respond, it was as though he was paralyzed. Jaiden reached out and covered Chris's face with his hand. Chris stared out terrified through Jaiden's fingers.
"Tell my father I said hello."Jaiden said, his voice inhuman.
A blood-curdling scream burst from Chris's throat as his head exploded in Jaiden's hand. Blood went everywhere, drenching Jaiden. He laughed and licked his lips, tasting the blood. Then he turned to Jon. Jon stared for a moment, turned and ran around the van, trying to get away. Jaiden slowly walked after him. Jaiden's body passed right thrugh the van as though it were nothing.
"You can't get away from me."
Jaiden bent down placing his palm on the sidewalk. The ground around Jon's feet shifted and rose. It encased him in a concrete cocoon up to his neck. He couldn't move. Jaiden approached him.
"How long do you think it will take me to crush you?"He asked.
"Please don't do this Jaiden."
Jaiden tapped the concrete with one finger. It tightened around Jon, squeezing him. Jaiden tapped it again, and again, and again. The concrete tightened around him painfully.
"S-st-stop it!"
As Jon looked down into Jaiden's red eyes and blood satined face, he knew he was going to die. Jaiden was going to show no mercy and kill him. Just like Chris. Only Chris had died fast, he was going to die slowly. Jaiden tapped the concrete again. Jon choked as blood trickled from the corners of his mouth.
"Will you drown in your own blood before you're crushed?"Jaiden asked.
Jaiden tapped the concrete again. This time Jon heard his ribs crack. He screamed in pain as Jaiden tapped the concrete again. He coughed and blood ran down his chin.
"Kill me now!"He pleaded.
"Why would I do that?"Jaiden laughed."I want to see your pain."
He tapped the concrete again. Jon willed himself to die. He was in so much pain. Why would Desilus let him suffer like this? At the hands of his own son? Simon had warned him of this. He had told Chris and Jon before they left that Desilus could not help if Jaiden's inner demon possessed him. He would kill them both, with no mercy. Jaiden tapped the stone again. He laughed as Jon screamed in agony. He tapped it again and again. Jon could no longer squeeze out words, only silently scream out the pain in his head. Jaiden balled his hand into a fist and punched the concrete. It suddenly pressed together flat. Jon died instantly, his head rolling onto the ground at Jaiden's feet. Blood and bits of organs oozed out of the concrete.
"It's such a shame he didn't scream more."Jaiden sighed.
He turned and walked away from the blood pool. He knew what his new goal was. He was going to destroy his father's precious church of stupid human worshippers. He would save the leader for last. As long as he stayed out of his human form, his father couldn't speak to him. Unfortunately, the human Jaiden could.
'How could you do that?!'Human Jaiden asked.
'I see no problem with it. One less human is always good.'
'Your cruel! Give back control of my body!'
'I will, as soon as I give you your gift.'
'What gift?'
'I won't tell you, but trust me, you'll love it.'
Jaiden headed back towards Mike's house. He went inside and sat down at the computer. He opened a file not yet decoded, still in Fvola. He scanned it quickly, pausing at the part he had been searching for.
'You can read that?'Human Jaiden asked.
'Of course I can, I'm a demon. You will be able to soon as well.'
'I'm not a demon.'
'Not yet, but as soon as I give you the gift, you can take down our father. You will be able to see his demons and kill them. Of course, Uliara will be after you, but you can kill her off easily.'
'I won't.'
'You won't have a choice. The Purgers will see to that.'
Jaiden stood up from the computer. He knew what had to be done, and he was going to enjoy it thoroughly. He headed out the door and bumped in to Mike, who was accompanyed by two others. Mike took one look at Jaiden and jumped back.
"Your not Jaiden! Name yourself!"He said.
Jaiden smiled, leaning against the doorpost."How rude. Here I am in this body, and you doubt who I am. Tsk Tsk."
"You are the inner demon that resides in Jaiden's tainted soul! You possessed him!"One of the others said. She was a woman in her twenties, with flaming red hair and dark brown eyes.
"Who are you?"Jaiden demanded.
"My name is Selene Smoke, decendent of Robert Smoke."
"Smoke, the demon hunter of the Water."
"That's right."
Jaiden looked at the other."Judging by your blond hair and silver eyes, i'm guessing you're
a Ganter."
"Yeah. Decendent of Bethany Ganter, Earth master."The young man said.
"Well,"Jaiden straightened up,"If you don't move, i'm going to kill you."
He jumped at them suddenly, but Selene's quick reflexes helped her to dodge him. Jaiden quickly turned his body and went for the young boy.
"Jerod move!"She shouted.
He was not as quick. Jaiden grabbed his wrist, which exploded up to his elbow. Blood splattered over Mike's porch. Jerod let out an agonizing scream and dropped to his knees holding the stump that was his arm. Jaiden jumped back and took off running to his house, knowing Simon and the rest of the church would be there.
"Selene, go after Jaiden! He can't reach his house! I'll take care of Jerod. Go!"Mike yelled.
"Take care of him!"Selene yelled back, running off the porch.
Jaiden knew Selene would be the one to chase him. He also knew because he was a demon right now, he had a much stronger and longer endurance than her human body. He already had a good distance on her. He ran across the street, narrowly avoiding a car, which honked at him angrily.
He had a ways to go before he reached his house, but he was gaining speed with every step. He turned another corner, continuing to run by people out for their walks or jogging runs. He glanced behind him, surprised to see Selene still behind him. He looked forward again seeing the car that had stopped in front of him at the crosswalk. He leaped over it, the shocked driver's mouth hanging open, staring at the blood stained kid jumping over his car.
Jaiden had run four blocks and was now ten from his house. He passed a wooden privacy fence, and drug his hand across it as he ran. His hand left a black scorch mark, and as Selene ran by, she was caught in a psychic field. Her joints locked up and she slowed down. Jaiden looked behind him and smiled. He stopped running to enjoy her suffering for a moment. The field he placed would make her joints burn and her muscles rip.
He turned and walked a little to the corner. He noticed a pay phone and decided he was bored of running. He picked up the phone and called a cab company. He gave his location and hung up. He sat at the corner, waiting for the cab, getting annoyed at every passing minute.
"Damned humans! Useless creatures!"He cursed.
Every car that drove past him stared. He knew what he looked like. A blood stained child with red eyes sitting on the curb, showing no fear to the cars that drove past, barely avoiding hitting him. He checked his watch. It was going to be five o'clock in a few minutes.
Finally, the cab arrived. Jaiden knew he had to resist the urge to kill this human. He needed to get to his house. The cabby looked him over.
"What happened to you?"
"None of you buissness. Drive me to my destination."
"Okay. Jeez, you don't have to be rude."
Jaiden didn't respond as the cab drove him home. When he arrived he got out. The cabby opened his mouth, but Jaiden threw a twenty dollar bill in the back seat. The cab drove away and Jaiden went up to the door. Before going in, Jaiden ran his hand over his arms, face and shirt. The blood dropped to his hand and he threw it in the grass. Now he looked mostly human. He couldn't do anything about his eyes. He pulled some of his hair over his eyes, hiding them. He opened the door and went in the living room. To his surprise, noone was there.
'What are you going to do?'Human Jaiden asked.
'Nothing you'll regret.'
"Mom? Dad?"Jaiden called putting on his most pitiful face.
Jaiden heard the basement door slam open and people run through the dining room. His mother, father, Simon and the others ran into the living room. Bethany went behind him, closed the front door, and locked it. His mother wrapped him in a hug.
"My goodness! Where have you been?"
"Tell us everything Jaiden."His father said, pushing him in a chair. Jaiden put his head down.
"Well,"he began, searching human Jaiden's memories."I called a friend of mine after running."
"Damien?"
"No,"he answered, knowing human Jaiden needed this ally,"A guy you never met. His name's Jeremy. He told me where I could stay. It was with this guy who said he was a demon hunter. It turned out he was with a group called Purgers."
"The church of the demoness Uliara."Simon said.
"Yeah. Well, they told he Chris and Jon found me and that he decided it was a good idea to move me somewhere else. He took me to another church and people attacked me when I got there."
"Attacked you!?"His mother asked.
"I'm okay, it's not like they got me. They all most did. They said they were going to sacrifice me to Uliara. I got away and here I am."
"Why did you come home?"Simon asked.
"I don't want to die. I hate Desilus more than you can imagine, but at least he won't kill me."
"You should have known your own father would never kill you."Simon said. Jaiden continued to stare at the ground.
Simon cleared his throat."We must leave for the church. We'll see you tonight at seven. Bring the boy."They all left.
"Mom?"
"Yes sweetie?"
"Can I show you something?"
"Sure you can."
Jaiden looked up at them. His mother's eyes widened and she fell back from him. His father reached for the phone. Jaiden swept upward with his hand, making the phone smash against the wall.
"Calling Simon?"
"He warned us about the demon in you."His father said.
"Give us back our son!"His mother cried.
"Your son?"Jaiden laughed."I'm not your son! I'm the son of Desilus!"
"No!"His mother exclaimed."Our son is the human Jaiden."
"None of me is your son, human or demon."
Jaiden slowly approached them."Now I must bestow upon my human side the ultimate gift."
He grabbed his mother by the neck and lifted her off her feet." 'With the blood of the birthgivers, forcefully taken, they will bestow the touch of the dead upon their child.' "He recited.
He rushed the heated power into her body, and blood poured from her mouth and eyes. He grabbed the empty cup which was sitting on the table and held it under her chin. The blood ran off her chin and into the cup. He held it there for a minute. It was crucial she die in the process. When she hung lifeless from his hand, he threw her body down and turned to his father. He repeated the process on his struggling father, who took longer to die. When the cup was full, Jaiden spoke to human Jaiden.
'How do you think their blood will taste?'
'Don't! Please! Aren't you satisfied with just killing them?'
'Of course not.'
'You bastard! Damn you! You killed them! You killed my parents! I hope you burn in Hell!'
'I will never because i'm you. Your fate is mine. I am what your hatred is. I'm a part of you. You can never be rid of me. Now are you ready to receive the gift.'
Without hesitation, Jaiden lifted the glass to his lips and drained it. He relinquished the body back to human Jaiden. Now back in control of his body, Jaiden rushed over to his parent's bodies. He reached out but pulled back his hand.
"I am very angry with you."Desilus' voice rang in Jaiden's head.
"I don't care."Jaiden whispered, fists clenched.
"You should! I know what you are planning! Trying to overpower me!"
"That's the demons plan, not mine!"
"Wrong! The demon is you! It is your plan!"
"Leave me alone! I hate you!"
"I cannot leave you. You are my son. You may hate me now, but when you are betrayed, you will beg my help."The words stuck in Jaiden's mind.
"I'm going to be....betrayed?"
