    -------------------------------------------

"Lucien?" Kiara asked softly. He took his eyes off of the road long enough to look over at her questioningly. "What is it, m'lady?" His voice was ragged from stress.

    "What are you?"

Realizing her question was inexcusably rude, she hurried to clarify it. "I mean, what sort of vampire are you? How did you get this way? Why don't you drink blood like normal vampires?"

Lucien sighed and turned his attention back to the road, running his fingers through his now unbound locks. "Hard questions, m'lady. But I will try to answer them to the best of my ability..." Kiara interrupted. "..And STOP calling me 'm'lady.' It's driving me insane." The only response? "As you wish." Total silence reigned in the car for a few moments and then Kiara motioned for Lucien to pull onto the road's shoulder. "Why...?" he started, only to have her place a finger upon his lips, shushing him.

As he frantically tried to figure out why they were on the roadside in total dark, Kiara leaned over and soundly kissed him, then drew back to her seat, a bit breathless herself. He sat there slightly stunned. Relative silence sat over the car for a few moments, until Kiara broke the awkwardness. "I don't know what came over me," she said, her voice quivering a little as she spoke. "I-I'm sorry, Lucien."

He really didn't know what to say, so he quietly turned the car back on and pulled back onto the road. They were silent the whole way home, and once there, they both went to bed without another word being spoken.

As she lay there in the dark, Kiara began to think of her life before the change. Nights like these she missed those carefree days and resented the creature that had taken them away from her. Her thoughts turned to their first meeting.

She'd been dancing all night at her very first ball, and from the first, she'd felt his eyes watching her. Kiara tossed her wild mane back sensually and giggled at something her dance partner said. Funny, she could never remember what the boy had said, but she would forever remember Dalamar's eyes. A fierce piercing brown they were, that seemed to read your very soul's thoughts and desires. She blushed as he smiled that wickedly inviting grin, as if reading her emotions.

Even as a human, Kiara had had a love affair with sinfully decadent colors and styles. Tonight she was wearing a low-cut scarlet dress with a skirt that flared out into a deliciously full and flounced skirt. She'd been admiring herself in the mirror, had turned to make her way back to the dancefloor, and he was there. Suddenly, breathtakingly THERE. Those liquid eyes pinned her where she stood, and stripped her without so much as a word, but she felt no shame. Instead, it felt perfectly normal for him to look at her like that. He pulled her close against his muscular body and molded hers to every contour of his lithe frame. Dalamar's lips sought hers, and forcefully pressed against them, hers softly yielding to the sheer sexuality of him.

Then, devastatingly, he was gone. And when her mother asked her severely why her hair was mussed and her dress askew, she answered dreamily "falling in love." For a week afterward, she floated around in a state of pure bliss. Then slowly it sank in, with her mother's repeated reminders, that her mystery man was never coming back.
