A figure sat on a thick branch of a tree at the edge of the forest. His head turned sideways to face the rising star called Cleo. He watched the light stream through the land painting it with warm colors of green, brown, blue. He sat with his back against the trunk of tree with his long legs stretched out in front of him on the branch. The sun was high up in the sky and in his eyes now. He pulled his hat down on his face and yawned. He was tired and his butt hurt from sitting up there for six hours. He had been sent there by the Solino, head of the Cross academy; to meet with a new teacher who happened to live in the forest. He secretly wondered what kind of being he would be. He had been given no information whatsoever on the person. Apart from directions to pick him up and take him to the school. He was also told not to ask any questions either. Even though he had been a teacher at Cross academy for ten years, he still didn’t quite understand what Solino was thinking. Solino was thirty years old, a year younger than him and already the principal of the most prestigious academy in the world. Solino had dark hair which he started to grow long, light brown skin with icy blue eyes that seemed to always be looking into the distance lately, like he wanted to run away or something. But it could all have been his imagination. All the same he admired Solino greatly. Solino always seemed to never lose his cool. He heard a rustle of leaves from below. He looked down to see a black cloaked figure; he swung swiftly from each branch down to the bottom of the tree and landed like a cat on his feet.
“Are you Maron?” said a deep voice from under the hood.
“Yeah and you must be Keith” said Maron smiling. “I will be guiding you to Cross Academy” he said spreading his arms wide.
“Thank you” Keith said bending his head.
“No problem” Maron said. “Come on, we better get a move on before Solino thinks that we’re dead” Maron said making his way towards the fields. Keith walked behind him. They reached the middle of the field, where there was a blue booth sticking out from the middle. Maron opened the door and stepped in. Keith followed.
“This is how you use a transport device” he said indicating to the panel of words on the wall. “It functions on magic; all you need to do is type in the place where you wish to go. Since it’s Cross academy, the panel will check your data and profile and fingerprint. So that no one who is not a part of the school is allowed. I’m sure Solino has registered you, so you’ll be able to use this one your own soon. Are you ready?” Maron said turning back to look at Keith. Keith nodded his head. Maron started to spell Cross academy /main building. The transport booth started to turn green, indicating the scanning process. Then they suddenly vanished.
A minute later they appeared in the school grounds in front of the ten story high building.
“Amazing isn’t it” said Maron taking a deep breath. They climbed up the marble stairs that led to the huge oak doors of the building. The door swung open when they reached the top of the stairs and led way to the long corridor adorned with a gold ceiling. There were no students in the main building today, they were all at the opening party held at the dormitory. The building was about a thousand years old and yet it seemed brand new. There were crystal chandeliers hanging every ten yards from the ceiling. Maron looked at Keith to see if there was any reaction. There was none. He just walked behind him with his hood still covering his head and throwing a shadow on his face. Maron still couldn’t see his face. They passed by hundreds of paintings of swords magicians, dragons, griffins and many other magical creatures. They reached the end of the corridor where there was a door. Maron knocked on the door and said “Solino’s office, Maron and Keith.” The door sung open. The room they entered was covered in vines, trees, plants and flowers. It had a strong smell of wild flowers too. This caused Maron’s nose to get plugged.
“Welcome” said a voice, from behind one of the apple trees in the far end of the room. The room was practically like a green house with a large glass ceiling, with warm sunlight falling through. “Don’t just stand there take a seat my friends” said the voice. Two vine covered chairs appeared in front of them. They both sat down.
“So, how was your trip Keith” asked the voice.
“Interesting, Solino” said Keith.
“Interesting is always good” said Solino stepping out from behind the tree and walking towards them. He was seven feet tall with his dark hair flowing behind him. “Maron didn’t bother you with his chattering, did he?” said Solino grinning.
“Hey I don’t talk all that much” said Maron bringing his eyebrows to the centre of his forehead. Solino walked over and sat behind the vine covered desk in a wooden chair.
“You must be allergic to wild flowers Maron; you always seem to sound weird when you are in my office.” Solino said placing his hand on his chin.
“Yes I must to go to Dr. Norr and get it checked soon” Maron said rubbing his nose.
“Anyway, thank you Maron for bringing Keith here. You may have the rest of the day off” Solino said with placing his blue eyes upon him.
Maron knew that he meant that Maron should leave them alone. “No problem” Maron said walking out of the room. He closed the door behind him. Something was troubling Solino and he planned to find out.
