They walk
Through the door
And give me a hug.
“Hey Mom,
How Ya’ doin’?”
These words as they
Head for the kitchen.
I follow them
asking Mother questions
and view their
headless torso’s
leaning into the fridge.
“Got any pop?”
“Can I have that burrito?”
“Where is the salsa
and the sour cream?”
“I love you too honey.”
I think as I get
down a plate and glass
watching him eat
and talk animatedly
with his mouth full,
just catching up.
Then he leaves.
satisfied that he made
his mother feel wanted
with a little visit.
I wash the dishes
and put them away.
Then I turn and see
the collection of magnets
on my fridge
funny sayings,
picture frames
some holding notes or reminders.
Refridgerators seem to
collect a lot of these
I keep them around
because they each
have a memories
and they make me smile.
just like my kids.
“Hey Mom,
got anything to eat?”
Here we go again.
