    dotsthe robin knowsdots

i've been hanging in the garden,
    rising up from graves
    & laughing adios
    to all those fuzzy dreams
i've been loosening into at night.

& i've come to the apex
    of a fierce tree
    that i remember
    from my deep childhood.
    or was it last year?
    i'm feeling my way
    through the smooth branches,
    coming up with leaves
    & broken postcards
from the time we spent in hell.

i seem to think that the future
    is somewhere around here.
    perhaps beneath the bark
or hidden like easter in a knot.
    darkness impedes my balance
    & my mind.
    but i don't mind.

    i know someone
who thinks that they've lost everything
that made the terrors go away.
i find golden eggs inside me,
    treasures where i nest.
    so i'll give some,
    but not all,
    of mine
    in hopes
    to make the weather fine.

& fear has it's own weather
that can only disperse with time.
    so here's my hand,
    my wing,
my black of night for soothing.
though i am no longer here,
remember me as if i'm extinct.
    for what dies,
must be honored in it's own way
so that new life & love can be reborn.

    i am always becoming everything
    in the missing time.

when you can't sleep at night,
take the gold of my eyes,
    hold on to it
    & ride a star
back to some special place inside you.

    the robin knows
    the true path home.
but it's going to take awhile.
