i've watched people get eaten alive.

    mostly they like drugs

the venus fly trap that draws them in
with flourescent colors pleasing to the eye

    and then snaps shut.

i've seen kids get swallowed up in macadam.

they think they can make it

the streets look like fun on the surface
they taste like freedom and rebellion

until they trip in the cracks.

i've been held in a cell counting bricks like my chances.

how did i get here again?

this is what you get when you try to
take freedom into your own hands

    i fucked up.

i've seen so much now that haunts me in sleep.

the blackhole barrel of a gun in my face
a heroin addict scratching until she bled
the spitting image of a mother i never knew

my list could go on for a mile
    and you still wouldn't understand.

but we all know what it's like

    to be abused
    to be neglected
    to be hurt

    to feel broken
    to feel empty

    to long to die
just so you'll never have to feel again.

    sometimes we try the drink
    to drown out the demons
    smoke them out
    burn them out
    slice them to slivers

    but they still remain
    underneath it all.

we just layer up on disguises
and try to numb ourselves at all costs.

remember when you came of age
when you became a young woman
when you became a young man
the struggle to find your identity and

    we all used those words.

remember your dark years, as i have.

the poetic justice in our negative behaviors
and our belief that we were not the problem

only led us further down that path
and some of us keep going.

if you want to turn around, i'll join you.

This was written very well. I loved the way you structured it. Fantastic. I wouldn't change anything, for it'd lose it's effect. Keep up the awesome work, and I'll keep reading
