Description: I don't really have words for this one. Sometimes giving all your love to someone is all it takes to keep them alive.
With All My Soul -------------------------------------------
Do not leave me with this sorrow
That has bestowed upon this night.
I refuse to let you die in my arms
Helpless to heal the wounds inflicted.
I’d rather throw away your pain
Telling you all will be well again.
But you smile with a sarcastic laugh
Forcing your hand to hold my cheek
Just to feel for one more moment
The warmth of my devotion for you
And I can’t help but shed a few tears
Knowing I am indeed helpless to heal.
My weakness never bothered you
Even for the sake of us staying strong
Whilst I was shattered in all directions
As to how I am to accept your death
You never loosened my shaking hand
As if to appreciate what you still had.
And just before your last breath
You whispered words I’d never forget
“I love you with all my soul”
I couldn’t imagine how I lost you
How one minute you were with me;
I cannot release you from my arms.
It’s been a while now since you left
You’re too far away for me to reach
I keep holding myself together
To prevent my world from falling apart
Because you wouldn’t want me to
Your love is what keeps me strong.
You reminded me of when my daughter was 15, and was helping the younger kids in a bus excursion. The bus hit a little girl called Angela, who died while my daughter was holding her, a few minutes later. Those two hardly knew each other, but she remembers Angela like a lost sister. She's 32 now, and quite recently I heard her talking about Angela, very much in the way this poem expresses. Her shock at being involved in an accident with a death, was much quicker resolved than the loss of this friend she was only intimate with for a few minutes. That's the part she will never forget.
A beautiful rendition of love in the most trying and helpless situation we humans shall ever experience.
My wife went into the Heavens on Dec.25,2007.
the only thing that keeps me from falling apart is my church's teaching on The Communion of Saints. After death, life is at its fullest and there are our loved ones helping God to keep our feet from stumbling and our hearts from losing trust.
