    I've had a lot of time to think
    since the day I disappeared;
    I've had a lot of time to face
    those nightmares that I feared.

    Sometimes it seems as though
    this life's become a dream,
    a far cry from the coke runs
    and my muted, helpless screams.

    I put my head to the pillow
    without tears in my eyes,
    no staring at the ceiling
    after many more failed tries.

    It's a first that I recall
    that my smiles have been real,
    the first true thoughts of happiness
    that I haven't had to steal.

    I've had a lot of time to look back
    since I turned and walked away,
    after reaching the conclusion
    that my life had gone astray.

    I burned a couple bridges
    that I wish would have stood,
    I won't apologize for what occurred;
    I did the best I could.

    And everything is right again
    or working out that way;
    I know you hate me for it,
    I don't care what you say.

    But you won't understand love,
    because you never will slow down;
    Just please put down that bottle,
    if you keep it up you'll drown.
