Dream Stealers

These are the things that come out at night Evil and twisted And stirring with fright Out from the shadows of velvety black Creeping and crawling These creatures attack Evil whispers souring your dreams Malicious and destructive What they crave are your screams Toying with your mind like a doll on a string Dangling and helpless Your dreams are their play thing Wriggle and writhe and sweat in your bed Hoping and wishing You won’t end up dead As slumber progresses your dream gets worse Sinking or bleeding Or fall victim to a curse You toss and turn and scream out with plight Fighting and struggling To end this wretched night As the moon begins to fall and the sun begins to rise Weakening and diminishing These creatures disappear along with their lies Falling back from whence they came Sneering and snarling As the sun keeps them tame Gone for now as your day has begun Confused but relieved You’re safe under the sun As the morning goes on you begin to stare Daydreaming of your night With your lurid nightmare You begin to forget the more you awaken Oblivious to the truth That your dreams are forever taken.
