Time drifted quickly, a wore down barn became their shelter from the world. The cold, the wind, the rain, and even the sun.
The demons were noisy, but Tristan could still sleep. Even though, it was obvious some nights she was not as lucky, the black bags under her eyes proved it. Just like Kara and Ben, the three almost did look like a young family.
Ben was awkwardly tall, he could pull off the young father look, not that Kara was prepared to become a mother. She couldn't help it now though, she had brought herself into it all, simply by asking.
But then wouldn't she still be stuck inside that cramped room? Sometimes she felt like she would wake up back there, and everything would work the same as it had before.
Save us..find us..help us..let us free....
Tristan finally woke up, she yawned and mumbled.
"They are talking.."
Kara nodded.
"Let us free..." Ben said aloud. Maybe to make himself sure that they had gotten the same message.
"Kill to set free," Tristan said. "They want me to kill me."
Kara gasped, and turned to the small girl who was now prepared to kill herself.
"I have to do what the pets say right?" Tristan asked.
Ben nodded, and Kara swallowed as Tristan looked at her. Kara couldn't let this girl kill herself, she hadn't even learned to love anyone!
She had never experienced life yet, she was still so young.
Tristan stared at Kara, who fiddled with her thumbs, searching the back of her mind for the answers she could never find, and she knew it herself.
Maybe she wasn't insane, if an insane person could debate on killing a young girl, they weren't really insane right?
"Big sister?" Tristan poked the top of her head lightly, in a polite way of asking her to hurry up her answer.
"I..I don't know. Dying doesn't seem right..even if the demons ask you to, I mean.. you are young.."
"But..big sister, don't we have to listen? Like listening to mommys and daddys."
Ben pulled Kara away.
"Maybe she's right, maybe this is the way to free them. I mean, you don't actually want to be here anymore right?"
Here anymore. Earth was just a here. Not a place. Not a home. Not a place of birth.
"Well, I guess.. I don't.. but it's not right. I mean.."
"Come on Kara, didn't they ask you to kill yourself as well?"
"No, that's why I'm confused, I mean.. why so suddenly. They built it up to seem like something so hard.. something we would have to work hard at, but now that we've escaped they want us to die?"
"Mm, that's true. You have a point. But, I mean, we really didn't try hard to escape, we also wouldn't be to kill ourselves in there. Besides, maybe the demons weren't real. Maybe they were ourselves."
Us. The demons were us. Kara thought, does that mean I'm really insane?
Kara sat on the ground, and covered her ears.
"You mean.. you two want to die."
"Yes," Ben said, followed by a "yes," from Tristan.
Kara stared in amazement. Ben had old rope in his hands, and was tying it in a hangman's noose. Kara couldn't get up, or say anything.
Our own demons..Kara thought to herself, was this really just ourselves. Telling ourselves what we truly wanted..?
Kara stood up quickly, and grabbed a hold of Ben.
"Don't do it Ben, this isn't right! I know it isn't!" She was actually yelling. The yelling pounded into her ears, she hated it, wanted to scream more, but kept yelling. Trying to attract attention.
"Don't give the rope to Tristan!" She began to sob, and pull his arm. She held it tightly, not letting go.
He pulled away and pushed her to the floor.
"Kara, we have to do this, you can go back there if you wish to rot there. But, we are going to free ourselves from this world tonight."
"Like the pets asked." Tristan chimed, while standing on a broken chair to tie her rope to a wooden beam.
Kara sobbed, grabbing Ben's feet, and repeating for them to stop.
As the both stood a top the hay bails, they turned to Kara.
"Good by-"
She could hear them starting but she closed her eyes and covered her ears. Every sound they made whipped her ear drums. Even the sound of the rope bouncing as they let go of their final moment.
Kara woke up. In a new room. A quiet room. A white room. A small barred window was on the door. She tried to stand, but her arms were tight across her chest. A cloth bound her arms to her, she struggled to get up.
She was back. She could see nothing but white halls.
"Where am I?" She asked herself.
The demons? Ben? Tristan? Where are they? She questioned herself.
"Right here." Kara turned to see Ben and Tristan, wearing the same clothes as before. The two had horrible bruises on their necks.
Kara wanted to hug them, but let them hug her instead.
"Guys, I thought you were dead."
"Only to the world."

"Patient number 45672, name Kara. She has been talking to apparent people that only she can see. She had called them Ben and Tristan for some time now. Recently she started sobbing, and calling to Ben and Tristan to not kill themselves, yet after months of silence, she finally started talking to them again today.
"We are not exactly sure what has caused this, but she said many times to Ben and Tristan that is was all the demons. Perhaps, they were just her own demons that she was trying to sort out. When she realized these demons could never be solved, she brought Ben and Tristan back.
"It is extremely sad, but things like this happen. We also have no record of a Ben or a Tristan staying here at this unit, even though Kara recalls them being here, and this was where she met them. Maybe she just made them in her own loneliness. We'll never know, for now, Kara's case is closed."
