    Hymn of Freedom

The butterfly could not formulate glass
    it battered its flimsy wings
    freedom lay beyond
    still cruelly beckoning
with the scent of flowers and open fields

How like a god as I sat and watched
implacable glass tearing delicate wings apart
    a choir sings to me
    immortal invisible
I sat and let the butterfly die
baked by heat and its struggle to be free

This reminds me a little of a haiku I once wrote about a moth trapped under a glass. I explored the same point in a briefer expanse; that is, the futility of finding freedom. I think this could be tweaked to be a little more insightful and deep, but for what it is it's well spoken and definitely thought provoking.
