    dotsSTOP OR I~LL SHOOTdots

"Stop or I'll Shoot!" shouted Paul. He was in one of his drug enhanced states as he entered the bedroom of his grammars' house seeking out the noises he had heard from downstairs.

The story begins with little old Edna who was seventy two, inviting her favourite grandson Paul around at nine o'clock on a Tuesday evening to set up her new TV remote control for her. It was one of those nights that she attended a community centre just off the Dock Road in Liverpool near to where she lived. Only on this occasion she would forget that Paul was coming round.

She knew he was a bad lad in what he did for a living and, was always telling him about it and that he should stop what he was doing and get a proper job. She also knew she was wasting her time talking to him like this.

But despite all this she had loved him dearly, perhaps more than the rest of her grandchildren. He was the only one of her five grandchildren to have been born several weeks premature and had nearly died, so she saw him as kind of special. Paul himself adored his grandma and knew that she had helped him as a baby, besides he loved the little treats of her home made apple pie and custard each Sunday, when the house was full for the traditional Sunday roast.

Edna had lost her husband Tom to cancer some twelve years back, yet she was not exactly lonely apart from the family she had many friends. Edna also had a good relationship with her neighbours, especially Doris from two doors away who was seventy eight. They both attended the St Joseph's Community Centre four days a week, where they made use of most of the activities on offer and got a good meal at a low price into the bargain.

Edna and Doris loved to dance and play bingo the former being their favourite, their long time dance partners where Jim and Ted who lived and worked across the road from the centre.
Jim owned the betting shop along with his wife Maggie at the end of a line of shops, and Ted was his long time serving manager, Ted was a widower and both were slightly younger than Edna and Doris by some five or six years but that was of no matter to any of them, they enjoyed each others company. But Doris knew that Edna held a torch for Ted and had done for some time now and was sure that they were having secret liaisons after the dances were over.

Tuesday started just like any other with Edna getting the weekly shop and nipping in to see Ted to ask if he was still on for tonight, and would he call round for her at four o'clock. Doris however always got a lift from husband Norman and got to the centre twenty minutes before the dancing started to get a brew going and set out the cake and biscuits. By the time this was done the centre started to fill up slowly until finally Edna and Ted arrived, it was time to relax and await their favourite tunes to come up and to dance the evening away too.

Tonight was that little bit special for Ted as he was to ask for Edna's hand , he knew that there was that special something between them and thought the time was right to make his move. He had made his declaration of love for Edna over the microphone just before their favourite tune came on, and amid the applause and cheers she mouthed a willing "Yes" to his proposal. "love was in the air"....

The evening soon came to an end as it does when you are enjoying yourself, and Edna had invited Ted back to her house for a night of desired passion, and because of all that the evening had brought she still forgot that her grandson Paul was going to call later that evening.
It was around seven forty five as Edna and Ted settle down with a glass or two of rum and chatted about what the future held for them. They both felt a great deal towards each other and then Edna ask Ted to stay the night.
Edna and Ted were in the throes of making love when Paul arrived, a little earlier than he had planned. He would let himself in with the key that Edna always kept at the back of the front door on a piece of string,
Before going in he took his last drags on the third spliff that he had had that evening, flicking the finished butt at a parked car close to the house.

Entering the hall way he heard some unfamiliar sounds coming from upstairs, and thinking the worst he shot up the stairs and listened at the bedroom door where he knew the sounds were being emitted from. "R,A Ted, if I die before you finish will you make sure you pull me nightie down." In his drugs hazed state, Paul could not comprehend what was going on. Thinking that his grandma was in trouble, he reached into his back pocket and produced the hand gun he always carried with him these days.
He then burst through the door and shouting, "Stop or I'll Shoot!".
