    Damn you,
    foul hobby,
    blasphemous employment.
    You only come in pain
    and visit far too often
    rarely coming to fruition.
Why must I hate what I love?
Why is it harder than dancing on the head of a pin?
    Damn it,
I have to drive myself crazy
just to put this pen to paper
and scowl out these useless lines
that only make sense to me
    but it's like a drug,
I have to have my fix,
so I pick up this pen,
    and I fail, fail, fail
    and do it again.
    It's my heroin:
both my joy and my pain,
    but damn it,
I have to do it again.

mmm... nice... I wonder...did you mean the heroine/heroin play? If so, magnificat! And the "place" in the poem is spot on! How often does the strongest, most powerful work come from pain? I.E. Spirituals? Good work, hon. <><

I really like the way you describe, perfectly, What writing is (especially in the whole failing bit). Such a sense of being frantic throught the whole thing. Very nice.
