    -------------------------------------------

    Tittering shorebirds dot the shore
as the tide comes gently in.
    Seagulls cry just overhead
    their voices excite the wind.

And, just offshore a fishing boat
    chugs on its merry way,
    with weathered fishermen casting net
for a new catch of the day.

    It's another day in Paradise
    on this exotic shore!
Our inland woes are a memory
that was left home at the door.

    Exotic drinks and desert palms
and the sea wind's fragrant breeze,
we're home here in this wonderland
    doing exactly what we please.

    Sleeping late and dancing late,
    with brunch from ten till three;
where cocktail hour begins at noon
    we've lots of liberty.

So pardon if we're a few weeks late!
    It shouldn't be a surprise,
that we opt to linger for awhile
    in this island paradise!

      AND I WASN'T INVITED!!!

Now that's exactly what I could use. It's been a long time since I lived near the ocean. That was the one place I could go to and feel my emotions healing through the repetitive waves of awe.

Very beautifully put and I must say I am jealous!

I hope you really got this vacation? If you stay too long you'll lose your job and have to become a fisherman. Then you'd go to wherever you used to live, for a vacation.

I live in a town that's largely supported by tourists either looking for the Outback or trying to find their way out of it. I laughed about this poem, because I grew up on little Pacific islands, your paradise; but two English colonial officers went nuts and another one died because surgery was unavailable for his kidneys, while I was having a great time being a kid.

This poem made me think about all that! Guess I'm just one of these types who has to find out what's wrong, they call us optimists because we think it might be better somewhere else ...

      Super-vivid!!!

So you always carry your paradise along with you ....

....and often capture its glimpses in poetry. The very first line conjures up a very lively image, the resounding cries of the sea gulls vivify the whole scene further... then weathered fisher men casting the net... Ah! what is left?

This poem is a complete feast for the senses. Also it is a celebration and assertion of freedom that parallels the dominating image of sea in both expanse and beauty...

    Have fun!!!

Having just come back from vacation myself to a wintery mix of wind, snow, and sleet, this poem of yours truly brought a smile to my face! How easy it is to take such pleasant days for granted while you're in an island paradise. Thanks for lighting up my memories, Ron. :-) Sharon

this was a sweet get a way from the average poems lately. Just one thing...

    It's another day in Paradise
    on this exotic shore!
Our inland woes are a memory
that was left home at the door.

This last line doesn't seem to fit as nice as the rest of the poem flows.

    suggestion:
That swings from our front door

I don't know, maybe not; I could be just reading it wrong!

This is a nice vacation from the doldroms of winter that are approaching fast!
I imagine many people could be relaxed and refreshed by ample free time along the beach...with a cool drink (with the obligatory paper umbrella among the ice cubes) and a comfy spot to recline at beachside, along with some pleasant company to pass the slow time with.

Thanks for this brief, but enjoyable break from my boring November days, Ron.
