A raven is perched tall atop an evergreen tree Seeing all that those black beady eyes can see He sees a rabbit and a tiny mouse He sees the antlers of a very large moose Spreading its wings, balancing in the breeze This darkened shadow begins to breath He lets out a loud shrieking cry Disturbing the hallows of the trees inside The ravens call is heard from miles around From the cold crisp air to the insects in the ground I peer at this creature as it rests its beak quite high I stand quite still and look it directly in the eye |
