    Mistreated and misunderstood,
    So the deserter thinks

    The masters over him are evil and cruel
    so the deserter knows

    They humiliated and punished him
    so the deserter says

    But his masters know the truth
    They did no such thing

    They treated him just like the others
    He was no different

    They only followed the rules
    Unlike him

    His peers says he did the right thing
    They only half believe

    The peers agree he was in the right
    They say halfheartedly

    Peers think their truths are real
    But they know they are lies

    The only right one is the one that withstands the test of time.
