Most don't understand the weight one person has to carry, the secrets they must hide.
"Nali be with me forever" His lips, so beautiful, so kissable. "I...I didn't know you felt that way Ryan..of course I'll be with you forever" I can feel my hands shaking as the words leave my mouth, this must be a dream. "No for eternity" His smile oh god his smile is so beautiful. "NALI WAKE UP. BREAKFAST. NOW" ughh no not now. "Ryan.." I pull the pillow over my head as I try to drown my mothers voice, why must she ruin my dream. Why!. "Nali if you don't get your fat lazy ass out of bed now I will give your breakfast to your brother's" God her voice is so shrill. Does she realize she sounds that way?. I throw my pink and green blanket off my bed, revealing my frail body in all its glory in my lovely pale pink night gown. Sliding my feet into my fluffy pink slippers I shuffled out of my room and down the stairs. My house always has the same smell every morning, the smell drifts from the kitchen. The smell of a wondrous home cooked meal. Before I've even sat down my darling mother roughly places the plate down in the usual spot I sit, near the wall. I'm the smallest so they cram me into the corner. "Eat and get dressed you'll be late" She told me, her back facing me as she cleaned up the pots. She was always grumpy in the mornings, well no that's a lie. She was just always grumpy. Except for parent teacher nights, she loved seeing my Math teacher Mr Collerly. I had one egg and two slices of bacon down before I hear the rowdy sound of my brothers fighting down the stairs. "No way man basketball is for pussies" Mark said, he always taunted my older brother Lee for being on the basketball team. "Whatever we are not pussies your a pussy who plays football anymore serious" Lee argued back, it was like this every morning. Their argument continued until my mother placed food before them. Then the only sound was of the two of them cramming as much food into their mouths as possible. I ate the rest of mine as quickly as I could before squeezing past my brother Lee. "What it punk I'm eating, you trying to make me choke?" He spluttered. My brothers were always jerks. "uhh..no sorry" I mumbled, did I mention I'm not to good with words?. I made my way back up to my room, it was the smallest. My single bed and desk were all I could fit. My small white alarm clock still sat on my bedside table, yet to go off as it read 6:15 am. God how I love my mother for getting me up so early, not. Before flicking my light on I figured it would be better to let some natural light in. Pulling the curtains open I could see the sun wasn't even up yet, great. I flicked the light on and closed my bedroom door at the same time. God knows I didn't want to be interrupted right away. Falling back onto my bed I let my eyelids flutter shut as I thought of my passing dream. Ryan was a boy at my school, A senior. He was smart, funny, sweet and of course unbelievably cute. God What I wouldn't do to be noticed by him, but he's to busy with sports and his girlfriend, Heather. She's beautiful that's true and she's smart but she never really seems tha- "Nali are you getting ready?" Damn again. I jump up from my bed and cycle through the small amount of clothes I have for my uniform. It's a little creased by that's my own fault. I slide it on along with my shoes before I begin packing my back. There wasn't much to find since I leave most of my things in my locker. I grabbed my English literature text book and my binder full of my art and homework and shoved them into the bag. My clock now read 7:35am. How much time had I spent thinking about Ryan?. I blushed at the though, I really was careless when it came to him. I opened my door to find my two brothers chasing one another down the hall towards their room, How mature. I let out a deep sigh and close my door before heading back down the stairs. "I'm ready mom" I call to her as I flop down on the couch. School was a forty-five minute drive away from my house and even though I'm sixteen years old my mother doesn't trust me with a license. I think it's because of my dad. When I was six years old he was diagnosed with cancer, we tried for months to show him we didn't care and we'd support him but eventually he couldn't handle it. He drove himself off a cliff, leaving my mom to raise us three kids on her own. She's hated him ever since and though she says it's not true I believe that's why she treats me so coldly. Because I look just like my dad. My dear old dad Leon.
It was freezing as I stepped out of my mothers car, no kiss good by, no have a good day just a 'we are here, get out''. She really had a way with words. As I let out a sigh I glanced up to see Ryan, God he's far more beautiful in real life then he is in my dream. My eyes kind of glazed over as I felt a smile creeping up on me, crap he's going to notice me gawking. "Hey are you alright" He called. Was he speaking to me?, oh my head feels dizzy he mus- everything went black.
"Hey Nali you okay?" His voice called, it was him, it was Ryan. "What..happened" I asked my voice sounding sleepy and slightly like I was drugged up. "You fell outside the school gates. You hit your head really hard" His voice was that of an angel. "Am I dead?" I asked only to hear him respond with laughter, even his laugh was beautiful. "No your not dead, we're in an Ambulance, taking you to the hospital they asked me to come along in case you couldn't recall what happened" His voice seemed like it was thick with worry but that had to be my imagination, he didn't know me, he wouldn't worry. I could feel his hand touching my face, it was warm and gentle, his skin so much softer then I had imagined. He pushed my hair out of my face and smiled. "Don't leave me okay" I asked my voice sounded horrible. God how embarrassing. He laughed at me again, was I amusing?. "Alright, I won't leave" He answered as he gave me the warmest smile I'd ever seen upon a person. It wasn't long till our ride came to an end though, and so did his hand touching me. The pulled me out of the ambulance and rushed me to a ward faster then I'd ever seen, or at least felt. It felt fast.
What seemed like hours later, there I lied in the Children's ward, Ryan by my side telling me all kinds of random stories, it seemed like another one of my dreams. Though this one had a terrible ending. "Miss Nali Winter?" A tall doctor asked. He was attractive for an older man. Slightly tanned with a slim body his eyes were a deep forest green, he did however have that stern doctors look upon his face. "Miss Winter I uhhh...Sir would you mind giving us a moment" He was speaking to Ryan now. "Sure" He said as he stood and left the ward, waving to me as he did. "Now Miss Winter we've noticed an abnormality in your brain..I'll skip all the medical terms for you Nali but basically there is a possibility that you won't live to see Christmas" |
