Description:

Inspired by something Susanna Kaysen wrote in Girl Interrupted. 'Every window on Alcatraz has a view of San Francisco.' Beautiful isn't it?

Windows of Alcatraz

With- Without,
In or Between?
You, my Dear
Are not as you seem.

I stab and pry
And bruise what i can.
Coming closer and closer
To what i know i am.

Then there you are,
It's dark, but i see-
You're speaking of you
While you hardly know me.

You have your words.
But i have the light.
Wings are for birds
Though soon i'll take flight.

Can't you feel my pain?
So sick of this game-
My head above the water...
I'm drowning just the same.

This sounds really beautiful... it has a powerful subtlety to it. Nicely done.

I really like the first two stanzas. What an interesting perspective to write from. I see why you were inspired to write. Not sure what you mean by "You have your words, but I have the light", in the context of the poem. Am I missing something? The last stanza closed it out nicely. Especially the last two lines. Leaves me with a very clear image.
