    Description:
Wrote this, based off another poem I did, "Stars in Our Eyes". Yeah, I rhyme, because I'm old school like that. © S. B. 2009.
This is for you, Connery. Welcome to the world, angel. I hope they don't blow it up.

dotsBorn A Star, Died A Martyrdots
    -------------------------------------------

We all come to life with stars in our eyes
    Innocence tied to the altar
Angels fall first but seraphs fall faster
Saints are oft the first to falter

Here you are, a living proof of hope
Ten perfect fingers, ten perfect toes
A smile to break the devil's heart
And a laugh to speed the heart as time slows

    Silver eyes and golden veins
Pulsing with the will to be-yet see,
    Abbadon comes in toting chains
    Tattered mask and topaz tongue

Silliness is sweet poison indeed; see how naive some can be? Grow up, grow strong, give up, go long. This time has passed, this trust in life won't last.

Resist the call, ignore the signs
    Read between the lying lines

I don't think they could bear to see
What you wouldn't turn out to be

And here you are, a living proof of hope
Ten perfect fingers, ten perfect toes
A smile to break the devil's heart
And a laugh to speed the heart as time slows

I can almost see you flying
    Soaring beyond studded skies
    And your wings avoiding hits
From nine millimeters of toxic lies

Almost too sweet for this world
A beautiful sight for lightly scarred eyes
So innocent, just at the dawn of life
A veil not marred by your cries

Like you, I too was an angel
I too was born with wings
My eyes were once gilded over with hope
I joined in the life your kin sings

But I heard the whispered words and, distracted, fell upon the rocks
I found that I couldn't play the game
Two faces surrounded, but I still clung to what I knew
And I suffered, neck inpaled, all the same

As everything I knew faded and my vision turned to black
I heard my voice screaming words that I couldn't take back
To them it bit, to me it made no sense
    Declamations, degradations, defiance, anger, and...
    Innocence.

But heroines are just wasted needles
    Scattered on the floor.
As the liars screeched higher... I saw the light
    And shut the door.

I was born a star, child
    Innocent and pure.
I heard and was distracted by
    The sinking siren's lure.

    I didn't die a heroine.

    I died alone.

I was wasted like a rat on the rocks.

I ended up a martyr, the patron sinner of lost causes.

    I'm here, telling you now:
    You don't have to.

    Don't listen.
    Don't look outside.
    Let me assure you,
    Abaddon lied.

You are as you were meant to be
Warts and all, with all your faults
    Live not in false precocity
You're you just as you are.

    You were born a star.

As a child, may you remain.
