Who will remember
The names of spent blood
On the epitaphs and cenotaphs
To unknown soldiers
This centuries pile of
Unknown heroes
Their legend is no longer written
Or remembered
Achilles
They die in their droves and in secrecy
Still the puppets of golden kings
Who’s petty trinket
Is the cost of their lives it took to buy with
Not for love
Or for honour
Achilles
No not even for eternity
Achilles
And all the Gods you so defied
In your brazen burnish of courage
Are now those deities you so despised
As faceless
Behind their armouries and vaults
In their quiet sanctities of control
More a mockery
Of your brave heart
Achilles
And where now the Iliad of legend
Where now the memories of centuries
In the counting currencies of terrorism
They die in their droves
For a cause less than noble
When they could have stood defiant of the Gods
And at least chosen to have died for themselves
Achilles
And not in the cost of counting banks
And not as pawns on a political map
Still believing in the lie
In every falsehood contrived to deceive
A warriors heart
Achilles
Who will recall
Those names of spent blood
On the epitaphs and cenotaphs
To bravery marked
In the tombs of unknown soldiers
This centuries pile up
Of unknown heroes
Their legend is no longer written
Or remembered
Passed and forgotten with the people who loved them
Who will remember them
Achilles
For centuries your defiance of Gods
Kings and men
Has stood
Achilles could not be bought
