Her motherly heart just swooned
at her youngest's freckled smile,
and the gift that he had brought her
surpassed others by a mile!
He presented a paper Rose
in his tiny outstretched hand
that he'd bought from a little grey lady
at a booth by the corner newsstand.
It had only cost a dime
but it was back there in the day
when a dime would buy an Ice-Cream Cone
or a toy with which to play.
The dime was his allowance
for the entire week!
He thought the money well spent
by the smile upon his cheek.
No mother was ever so proud,
or ever so deeply moved!
No gift was ever more precious!
No mother ever felt more loved!
No bouquet was ever more thrilling!
Even a diamond's brilliant glow
could'nt compare to the beauty of
that humble Paper Rose!
