The Strange Tale of Nephim The Sylph

It had been many a moon since Nephim; a sylph
Had wandered past the wooded realm

But on such nights when the moon hung full
With the stars streaming so beautiful
    Her heart would be called
And ventured her forth, out to the open fields

It was on such an eve
    When the heady summer heat
Seemed to full and lacking with the breezes
    She wandered wistful
    By delicate feet
    Dreamy in her reveries

She found herself by gentle shores
And lapping in moonlight halted by the waters
To ponder on all things airy

But her thoughts were disturbed by a gentle sigh
And a soft weeping that she heard

    In the pale blue light
    Sat a figure
    A creature unknown to her

Soft she blew with a calming breeze
To comfort this poor weeping thing
    “Who are you” she asked

    The figure shook his head
    “I am a man, a human”
    Nephim laughed
“A human, humans are a legends
“A story and myth we tell to our children
“They vanished from the Earth Eons ago

    The creature answered
“Yes I know, but still a human I am

Nephim sat and pondered this answer
“I have known many a Sprite and Unicorn
“Many an Elf and Fairy born
“Who would say that the legend of human
    “Is but a hope
    “Beings of light, they say
“Who once cared for us and cared for the Earth

“No one knows why they left
    “You say you are human
“How do you know you are a human

    “Look at me
said the creature and turned its tear filled eyes toward her
“I do not remember you at all

And then it fell to weeping softly to itself

Nephim was oddly shaken by this encounter
But she, only the soft breeze of a sylph
    Did not have an answer

    With her fingers and dances
    She softly caressed
    But unable she was
To ease this poor creatures tears

So she returned to the wooded realm
But her breezes carried an unkown sorrow
And the Earth in her sighed to know
    Why humans were
    Just a legend
