    dotsSend No Flowersdots
    -------------------------------------------

When I expire from this world
Send no flowers to the funeral
Place no wreaths upon my grave
I would rather have them now
    To feel the soft petals
And be enraptured by their scent
If you feel I am deserving
    Of such honoring bouquets
    Hand me daffodils and iris
Instead of laying them on the ground

Not a particularly original thought, but not cliché either --and you did handle it well, with a delicately understated minimalism--(and I am not sure there are really any new thoughts anyway. ..just newer versions of the same old--)

Look at all the different ways people reacted to this though,--so the piece stands on its' own merits for evoking these feelings in your audience.I love flowers, wild ones, cultured ones, everything from orchids to dandelions...and of course I won't experience their full splendor when in my crypt--but

I think that floral tributes are a means for the bereaved to express their love, and to feel less "helpless" in the face of their loss...but I also think that such tributes, unless sent from the heart can also be meaningless and even hypocritical. People should feel the same way about others in death as they did in life--yet so often kind words, verbose eulogies, and expensive floral arrangements
demean an existence when delivered for all the wrong reasons.

I think it was Amy-- cuddledumplin who wrote along these lines lines earlier this year. And I hope someone sends Myxx a flower---and mister fizzle a double--LOL>
Very nice Angela, no particular suggestions

I think this poem was great, I liked the whole message that you were trying to get across in this one. Once again it is a poem whose message transcends the poem itself. I feel the same way about things, if I were to be buried in my car I would freak out cause they ruined a perfectly good Automobile just to bury it with some decomposing corpse. I want to drive that [censored] now so I can remember it before I die. Thanks for the poem I loved it

I never did understand the concept behind putting half dead flowers on fully dead bodies...or even on the coffin...it must symbolise something, so who deemed it necessary to make it tradition?
Yet, when we recieve flowers as alive and breathing human beings, sometimes its so timely, it can become breath taking...
I've never recieved flowers in my whole life, so I dont know what it feels like...
Like all the great poets who never recieved their recognition before death...they weren't appreciated enough when they were alive...hopefully some day you are.
Much skillage for such a simplistic poem.

In all seriousness though very cool idea. I enjoyed it. Well written. A tad on the sad side just because it hints at someone who isn't really too happy with life at the moment. But thats not a crime or a bad thing to read about. Good Job.

matter of fact I'll take this one step farther. Just send me all the money you were planning on spending on flowers, we'll have one hell of a shindig, play some music and get drunk as hell. yee haaa!

i remember this one from before, and it is so right on! i'm not going to be in the ground there able to admire and smell the beautiful scent of the flowers. chances are i'll be cremated anyway, and my spirit will be long gone out of this world. give me the damn flowers now so i can enjoy them! well done!

      Forward the address.

Oh, now I have to keep typing,
Well, I have to be honest and tell you that this isn't an original thought, but I'm sure you have heard it before, no? However your words are lovely, and I like that you chose Iris and daffodils, two of my favorites, so pretty, so delicate, so short lived.

This piece is great, or still great....either way it's great. One must appreciate all things when they can in the now because they might not get the chance to later. I've been forgeting that lately. Thanx for this reminder.

I love this piece, as you know.. I think it was the first of yours that I had ever read and it stunned me.. the simplicity of the message and the inherent sadness of confronting one's own mortality. Yes, enjoy life now, while you still can... and if there is someone out there who you would buy flowers for if they were dead.. don't wait until then and buy them now! *lightbulb moment*

This simple message had a powerful presence in images. How much better to give flowers to the living than to the dead. You hit a chord with me on this note.
