beauty is the mirage of a flesh so alive
    it is intangible
    a distant unattainable focus
and i want to chew on its vulnerability
i am mad with the disease
    of common flaws
    and i am asked, frequently,
    to participate in a world
where no simple connections can be made
what is there to say about a dream
made up of leaves that expose no veins?
    in vanity
    i say
dare i speculate upon a human frailty
    an error of my ways
when i err on the wings of excess
you ask me to paint a picture of
    fossils realized in reverse
when all i can do is lead you to
    the still waters that cringe
at the thought of fulfilling its duty
    to cast an accurate reflection
    beauty is all consuming
    with my soul clinging
    to its murky sails
