    -------------------------------------------

My barge of teak sails to the west,
Its rails all worked with pearl and gold,
My girl slaves but with anklets dressed,
The craft by seven eunuchs polled.

The day is idle, eagles soar
High on the thermals near a cloud.
A slave my honeyed wine will pour,
They love me though Im haughty, proud.

One boys aboard, he sits and plays
His lute and so he makes me cry,
Such beauty as he sings those lays,
Through tears I scarce can see the sky.

His fingers stroke the strings once more,
My heart is filled with passions rare,
The blood pounds in my ears, a roar,
As I let down my long black hair.

My slave girls come to comfort me,
They comb my hair and stroke my throat,
Im drowning in a wistful sea
Here on my well appointed boat.

I have no lover, yet I pine,
How is it then that such can be?
No prince that I may say of--mine!
Oh, drown me in the cruelest sea!

My father keeps me far from men,
And thoughts of love he would destroy,
Now as my barge poles through the fen,
I am enamored of his boy!

He seems a lad both true and strong,
His eyes are sharp and dark as night,
His fingers supple, smooth and long,
His tawny hair is wondrous bright.

The day is idle, eagles soar
High on the thermals near a cloud,
A slave my honeyed wine will pour,
They love me though Im haughty, proud.

What a delightful description of an outing for a wealthy, ancient lady of nobility, lonely and bored from excess!

Though not its intention, this poem reveals the tragedy of the wealthy, from not having a need or care in the world for things that money can buy; no real challenges that make the heart race, the stomach tighten with fear, the desperation of worry!!!!

Superb work, my talented friend in letters!
