My eyes were drawn to it like a magnet. Brilliant shades of blue and purple danced across the shore line. In the skies above pinks and yellows twirled and hung in the air. In the center a giant molten ball of amber was making its way ever so slowly down the horizon. Vibrant reds and golds glinted and glittered on the surface of the waves. The waves seemed to breathe life into the colors, only alive for the briefest of instants. It was like a canvas, a stage with an orange backdrop. The whole ocean seemed to emanate an aura of light, a mirror of the skies above. Clouds seemed to soak up the color like sponges, clinging tightly to the cool night sky, their tips saturated with orange and their bellies swirled and glowed like the waves bellow...The whole view shimmered and twinkled as the amber ball made its way further down the horizon. I looked out at the ocean and saw one profound ray of light arching across the waves, laminating and igniting it with gold and red so brightly you couldn’t stare at it. It shimmered and shook as the colors raced across it. The waves seemed to carry the color in to the beach before sloshing it up and retreating for more. As I watched the waves painted the shore line like water colors on a canvas. Every minute we stood it became dimmer and light faded away, yet somehow the colors seemed to get clearer and more profound. The purples faded to dark blues, the oranges to dark reds, the yellows to green and then blue. The molten ball in the sky made its way lower and lower until only a sliver was left peaking over the crests of the waves. I watched its bottom shake on the horizon sliding further down with each motion. The waves seemed to glow red like transparent glass, sculpting and molding the colors into my eyes. I watched until the last of the light faded from the view, and the night settled in I looked up and saw that stars had appeared over my head…the view had faded into memory, one I’ll never forget.
