His lips are rougher up close
    his hands softer
    his eyes more unreachable

    Today, I will see him
    like a rare bird
I will spot his unmistakable profile
    that I involuntarily search for
    in the faces of strangers,
    like bright plumage against snow

and he will shame my coddled conjurings
and I will be unprepared and trembling,
    as always, for the collision
    of reality and memory,
    fascinated
like an enthusiast seeing a species
    only known from books

    Our eyes will meet
and I will become the frightened bird
    escaping to catch my breath
    and let my vision clear
    wondering if you knew
that I knew I would see you here
    and if
    with one naked expression
    I told you
    that you are always,
    always,
    always
    on my mind

i'm wondering how this has no comments yet...

a nice commentary on the idea of watching another from afar...loving someone who doesn't even know i exist...keeping an eye on them..like birdwatching, but you turn it around so nicely...with "like an enthusiast seeing a species/ only known from books"
and this turns to "i will become the frightened bird/ escaping to catch my breath"

but then perhaps when he catches me eyeing him...he will notice me and in my look see that i have always wanted to fly with him...and perhaps we may wrap our wings around each other and soar....

    really like this piece bunches
