Description:

This is from a few months ago, and it was one that was shockingly difficult for me to finish. I started and just couldn't make the words come. Eventually I did get the burst of will and inspiration to finish it. Though it's ostensibly about not wanting to make the first move when talking to a love interest, its also just a metaphor for how I live. I am a reactive person. Proactivity is hard for me, and I think that comes across well here.

BlackWhite

If this life is a board,
I will always choose black.
To watch and respond in time.
But if given the choice,
You would have me choose white,
And dare me to make the first move.
Do you already know what I’ll do?
Do you see my hesitation,
Or know just what it is I fear?
It is my own uncertainty.
The simple truth that I cannot know,
That which you do not reveal.
The mystery will haunt me always.
But maybe I’m afraid of the truth.
