    Who is this self
    Who walks with me
    Stormy, calm
    Controlled then free?

    Centered broken
    Warm contained
    Boundless frozen
    Chosen maimed

    Is this woman
    Part of me
    The one who walks
    Forth steadily?

    Or is she aimless
    Scared, un-free
    Emptied past

    I see her truths
    Through tear filled eyes
    Her steady gaze
    In turn replies:

    “You know me
    As I know you
    We’ve shared a past
    -Survived it too.

    This steady pulse
    Unites us here
    Through sorrow
    Laughter, peace and fear

    We’ve walked the Rainbow
    Chased the Sun
    Danced in Moonlight

    We’ve witnessed Heaven
    Toured through Hell
    Where Secret Keepers
    Never tell.”

    How does one live
    With such extremes
    What part of self
    Retains my dreams?

    I close my eyes
    To look within
    To find the place
    Where I begin

    I walk in silence
    Search through time
    Inwardly unwind

    She steps forward
    Holds my fears
    “Your mine
    I’m yours
    We share these tears

    Our dreams reach
    Past the day’s events
    Past memories

    The answer isn’t who
    It’s how
    In present tense
    We work with now.”

    She walks in
    Perfect majesty
    This self who walks
    And says she’s me
    I see her strength
    Still wondering why
    If she is right
    Then who am I?

i like the rhythm of this piece...

i like the abbreviated lines...dum de dum de dum....fits the countenance of the poem...

the battle of selves...which one am i?

i think we all have two selves, and they battle one another...

like people say we have a good side and a bad side...the fight within against evil...

but i think the battle and the two selves could identify many other things...split personalities...the bold, courageous self, vs, the introverted, less confident self...

or the poet in us vs. the concrete thinking self who reasons in black and white....maybe that side is safer...but the poet side takes the risks...

and sometimes the poet side shows much more ability to feel, when the real self no longer will...we suffer enough pain that part of us shuts life out...but the poet side shows that the need to feel is still in there, and the words usually show that.

    nice piece
