    all the ghostly girls
    and spectral lads
    sailed their little rafts
    to Trinidad

    set aside their haunts
    like exorcists
    sailing from the dream
    back toward the wish

I see a beautiful concept, giving up the day job to run off and vacation.

Sometimes the dream is a nightmare in disguise..

    I love this concept;

    Set aside their thoughts
    Like exorcists..

Sometimes i wish I were strong minded enough to do such a thing. Demons are hard to shake it seems, and I do love a crowd.

I just love this, "Sailed their little rafts to Trinidad". Like they're trying to perform the spiritual trifecta. As for a co-opted philosophy the second verse just fills the bill for me, you definitely appear wise.

Is this about the orphans that got left behind when on a field trip around six months ago? Or is that just a coincidence?

I know the island has gone by a few names.

"Ire" which meant "Land of the Humming Bird".

"La Isla de la Trinidad" ("The Island of the Trinity"). It seems it was to be a blessed place. But then again, that was when it was being occupied.

Finally, it was called "Trinidad" which in Spanish obviously means "Trinity" but when that occurred it became inexorably linked with a sister island known as Tobago which probably used to mean "a pipe or herb that induced trance so that people could speak with spirits".

    sailing from the dream
    back toward the wish

Perhaps all spirits sail from one island to the next, trying to navigate murky waters.

Which island will be our dream?
    Our wish?
    Which our fantasy?
    Which our prayer?
    Which our salvation?

Just some thoughts/questions that came to me while reading this. I don't expect you to respond with explanation. Unless of course you want to.

I guess this is long winded way of saying I like this, it made me think then explore.

the piece just sails with the pleasure of exploration. dont you just love that verb? and so sail all of us into this microcosm of nostalgia of yers. yargh matey!!! have a pleasant and wonderful new year! i look forward to 2012 with your shenanigans and tomfoolery about.

from a dream to a wish--that, to me, is one of those things that make me want to strangle my self. It's out there, splayed in the open. So obvious and yet I didn't even catch a similar idea.

It's always nice to read your stuff.

i have learned over the years (and maybe i am just a jaded tart) that there is no such thing as fairytales no matter which way the boat is headed.

and maybe it is a thing, to go back to wishing, whether it be blowing on dandelion seeds, or dropping stars, or petal picking the day away.
seems it keeps hope alive when the going gets tuff or the boat catches a leak when you don't know how to swim.

    anyhoo...

    just some thoughts.

nice to see ya post again there mister.

okay, first of all...love the second stanza, especially the last two lines..."sailing from the dream back toward the wish"

    that has such flavor...

and the first stanza made me wonder what had prompted this write, i have spent time in Trinidad; my parents lived there for two and half years...beautiful place.

    same for the poem...
